The latest media rankings show that whereas Fox News has gained more of the public’s trust in the past few months, MSNBC has not.
While the rankings don’t specify why, one possible reason might be the increasingly extreme rhetoric of one of its top hosts, Joy Reid, and her guests.
In the past few months alone she used a racist slur to demean Sen. Ted Cruz, mocked Sen. Marco Rubio over his faith, smeared parents who oppose racial essentialism, and celebrated a man who’d harassed Fox News host Tucker Carlson in front of his daughter.
Then, just this week, she and her guests — all of them as equally extreme in their rhetoric — portrayed elected congressional Republicans and conservative commentators like Tucker Carlson as members of a “white nationalist insurgency” that’s rooted in a “white nationalist belief system” and is murdering people.

The clip above began with Reid playing one of Carlson’s frequent segments about the indisputable illegal alien crisis along the southern U.S. border.
She then claimed the segment was rooted in a “white nationalist belief system” and asked one of her guests, California Rep. Eric Swalwell, whether he feels comfortable working alongside Republicans who share Carlson’s alleged beliefs.
“You work with these people, congressman. Do you feel comfortable and safe working with people who at minimum are willing to live with that kind of fascism and white nationalism in their party?” she asked.
In response, the congressman basically accused his Republican colleagues of being murderers.
“No, Joy, I don`t. And we look at many of our colleagues and believe that had they not been in Congress on January 6, they would have been on the other side of the door right next to Ashli Babbitt. And so I’m not working with them. I’m working to replace them from Congress. That’s the replacement theory that I’m all in for, is to make sure they don`t come back in 2023,” he said.
“But it`s really, Joy, these twin lies that are killing us, literally killing us. The lie that the election was stolen has taken the lives of many police officers and the lie that vaccines do not work also propagated by Tucker Carlson, Kevin McCarthy and, you know, those guys in the Republican Party, it`s killing Americans and it`s starting to kill our kids,” he added.
Not a single police officer died during the Jan. 6th riot. Some later died from natural causes and suicide, but none died specifically because of the riot. There’s also not a shred of evidence to suggest that congressional Republicans would have taken part in the riot either way.
Moreover, neither Carlson nor congressional Republicans have said that the coronavirus vaccines don’t work. They’ve simply raised valid questions about the federal government’s inconsistent health policies and mandates.

Continuing the discussion, Reid then asked her other guest, Malcolm Nance, to offer his take. The extremely far-left commentator replied by saying that, whereas he used to view the GOP as a terrorist group, he now views elected Republicans more as terrorist enablers.
“The Republican Party — you know, I used to joke that they were Vanilla Ices, right, all of these militiamen and everything out there. They were like ISIS. They were like Al Qaeda in the sense that they radicalized online, they would meet together in secret and they did all of these activities, which were very much like a terrorist insurgency,” he said.
“Now, I think they have shifted. The Republican Party is more like Sinn Fein and the relationship between Sinn Fein, the Irish Nationalist Party, and the Irish Republican Army, provisional Irish Republican Army terrorist group, who called themselves freedom fighters and insurgents and had Americans, American congressman sending them money to buy, you know, heavy machine guns,” he added.
Sinn Fein is an Irish political party that served as the political wing of the Provisional Irish Republican Army, a paramilitary insurgency group that was considered a terrorist organization by the U.K.
Nance concluded his remarks by claiming without any evidence that the Republican Party base is preparing for civil war.
“These guys view themselves as this fanciful group of patriotic freedom fighters, the second coming of the sons of liberty. And there are many of them who are preparing for civil war right now. All these shame that we tried to give them after January 6, that`s gone,” he claimed.
“There are many of them right now that are ready to fight and we`re seeing politicians in the statehouses and the Capitol who are actually, you know, pushing them subliminally to fight,” he added.
This extremely unhinged, extreme discussion occurred two days after a report emerged that MSNBC has lost viewer trust.
“Rankings of the most trusted brands in news show that Fox News gained ground in the six months since February 2021, while rival networks CNN and MSNBC both saw declines in trust,” Forbes reported, citing research from a brand research consultancy firm.
The report followed earlier news that Reid’s show is now attracting fewer than one million viewers.
One of the most alarming signs for CNN in the post-Trump era was when all their prime-time shows dropped below 1m viewers.
