ICE agent retires over Biden’s open border policies: ‘We’re pretty much screwed’

A 30-year Immigration and Customs Enforcement veteran who retired this week in protest over the Biden administration’s ‘open-border’ policies said in no uncertain terms that the country is “screwed” if something isn’t done to reverse mass migration.

Thomas Feeley said in an interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson Tuesday evening that the situation along the U.S.-Mexico border deteriorated immediately after former President Donald Trump left office and his strict enforcement policies were rescinded.

Carlson, who was broadcasting from Hungary where he is on-location filming a new episode for his “Tucker Carlson Originals” series on the network’s Fox Nation streaming service, began the segment playing a drone video clip reported by correspondent Bill Melugin showing as many as 1,000 migrants being detained under a bridge in sweltering heat over the weekend in Mission, Texas.

“If you don’t have a border, you don’t have a country, and by that standard, you should be very concerned about what’s happening along our very long frontier with Mexico,” he said.

Melugin reported that “many” of the thousands of migrants encountered by Border Patrol and immigration authorities over the past weekend “were visibly coughing” even as “COVID-19 cases continue to surge” among illegal border crossers more than “900 percent” over the past month alone.

After the clip, Carlson brought in Feeley, a former director of the New York ICE office, who said that the crisis along the “wide open” border has become “so bad” that migrants crossing illegally are simply being processed over the phone.

“There’s a fine line between telling people we’re not breaking the law and not enforcing it,” he told Carlson.

“Some ICE officials will tell you, ‘Well, the Biden administration isn’t telling us to break the law but they’re definitely telling you not to enforce it,’” he added. “So if that’s what you’re going to split hairs on, we’re pretty much screwed as a country going down this road.”

The former ICE manager went on to say that the current administration has hired non-governmental organizations (NGOs) via the Department of Homeland Security, which manages ICE, after Biden was inaugurated. He said that the NGOs then started to eliminate field office directors and law enforcement personnel so that more migrants would be released into the country, adding that he’s got email confirmation of what he says.

“I had a case who the guy was a convicted arsonist and they called me and said, ‘Hey, Mr. Feeley. One of our criteria is if the guy hasn’t been arrested in the past 10 years we need to let them go and we’d like you to release them,'” he told Carlson.

“And I said, ‘I totally get what you’re saying, but… he’s been in prison for 12 years. That’s why he hasn’t been arrested.’ And the answer I got was, ‘We don’t really care,'” he added. “And I had to cut him loose.”

Feeley said because of instances like that, he decided to end his service with the agency after three decades with federal immigration agencies.

“With the current administration doing everything they can to cripple ERO [Enforcement and Removal Operations], endangering the American public, and not enforcing the laws passed by Congress, I don’t want to be part of that,” he wrote in his farewell email, he told Carlson.

“As a member of the Senior Executive Service, a Service entrusted by the public to ensure whatever administration is in charge follow the law, we currently are not,” he added.

“To fight and argue every day about not arresting or releasing horrible criminal aliens to the street, quite frankly is disgusting.”
