President Donald Trump revealed in two retweets Thursday that he believes both the Parkland massacre and disgraced former USA Gymnastics national team doctor Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse of young girls could have been prevented had the authorities been doing their jobs versus chasing after him and his current/former allies.
The first retweet was a video shared by White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. Produced by The Daily Caller, the video showed Hunter Pollack, the brother of Parkland shooting victim Meadow Pollack, noting that his sister’s murder could have been prevented had authorities followed up on the countless complaints that were made about the shooter’s psychopathic behavior.

“The Parkland shooter had 45 police calls to his house,” Pollack said. “He threatened to kill and rape students, yet they never did anything. These Obama-era leniency policies allowed psychopaths to be in school with my sister.”
Pollack also referenced the Dayton shooting that occurred earlier this month.
“The Dayton shooter, he had multiple police incidents, he brought a rape and kill list to school, yet nobody did anything,” he said. “What good are background checks if we’re not actually giving psychopathic criminal backgrounds? This isn’t that the gun laws are failing. This is that people are failing.”
People like local authorities and the FBI.
“If the police departments actually did what they were supposed to, and mental health institutions actually labeled these people a psychopath, maybe these mass shootings wouldn’t be happening,” Pollack continued. “Instead of gun control, we can make sure that police departments follow up on all tips they receive. We can make sure that mental health institutions actually deem psychopaths unfit to carry a gun.”

The second retweet by Trump was a tweet from a random Twitter user who followed up on what Pollack had said by reiterating his point about the authorities not doing their jobs.
“FBI was given a heads up on Meadow Pollack’s shooter after he made clear threats,” the Twitter user wrote. “They were also given a heads up on Larry Nasser as he was sexually assaulting gymnasts. But they were too busy trying to take down Trump.”
Fact-check: TRUE.
“The FBI has spread the message that ‘if you see something, say something,’ but then it mishandled two ominous tips to its national call center about … the teenager who later gunned down 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with an AR-15 rifle,” the Sun-Sentinel reported after the Parkland shooting last year.
“Both tips suggested that Cruz was a school shooter in the making, but neither was sent to agents in South Florida to check out. The episode has exposed serious questions about how the FBI’s call center operates, years after it was established to try to head off deadly trouble before it happened. And it has left the FBI scrambling to plug holes that allowed [the shooter] to slip through despite warnings that he was a danger.”
The same is true of Nassar’s case.
“The organizations that should have protected young female gymnasts from sexual abuse by former Olympic gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, including the U.S. Olympic Committee and the FBI, ‘fundamentally failed’ to do so for years, according to a new congressional report,” NBC News reported last month.
“The report concluded that Michigan State University, where Nassar also worked, USA Gymnastics, and the U.S. Olympic Committee, as well as the FBI, ‘had opportunities to stop Nassar but failed to do so.'”

The two tasks that the FBI didn’t fail at was using a fraudulent dossier to obtain permission to spy on the president’s 2016 election campaign, and conducting research on his sexual exploits.
Of course, this isn’t a new point, as renowned conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh first broached it immediately following the Parkland shooting in early 2018.
“The FBI is really busy right now,” he said mockingly at the time. “They’re busy, I’m sure, tracking the entire Trump administration looking for additional sexual harassers.”
“I mean, there may be as many as 4,000 of ’em in there they gotta track down. And then they’re still trying to corroborate the Steele dossier. And that’s a worldwide effort. So the FBI has spread its resources here very, very thin, and we’ve gotta keep that in mind.”
Dovetailing back to the present, despite the nature of both Twitter user “Hammerdownhanna” and Pollack’s argument — which is that authorities should stop wasting their time on meaningless investigations — some on the left responded to the president’s retweets by insulting him, mocking him and urging the FBI to open new investigations into him:
