Despite his history of arrests for everything from robbery to drug and illegal firearm possession, it turns out gangster rapper Kodak Black actually has a notably “yuge” heart.
Case in point: Hunter Pollack, the brother of Parkland shooting victim Meadow Pollack, revealed on social media Thursday that the rapper recently reached out to his family — and not the other way around, amazingly enough — asking how he can contribute to upholding Meadow’s legacy.
When rapper @KodakBlack1k found out Meadow was a fan of his music, Kodak and his team contacted me about how they can help. He not only planned on starting a scholarship fund, but also offered to pay for the funeral of Hero Kendrick Castillo. https://t.co/SkhPjO0zmY

According to The Blast, a celebrity news site launched by TMZ co-founder Mike Walters, the rapper’s plan had been to invite Meadow’s family to a meet and greet at the just-concluded Rolling Loud hip hop music festival and use his own proceeds from the three-day event to start a scholarship in her honor.
Those plans fell by the wayside after he was arrested on firearm charges last weekend at the start of the Miami-based festival.

at the Hard Rock Stadium to perform. Kapri will be charged with both state and federal firearms violations and is being booked into the Federal Detention Center in Miami.

Throughout his career in the rap world, Kodak Black has faced numerous arrests and stints in jail. In May of 2017 he was sent to jail for roughly a month for violating his house arrest. He dropped the following music video upon his release:
But by January of 2018 he was back in jail again because of multiple marijuana and firearm possessions. He was likewise arrested just last month after trying to re-enter the U.S. from Canada while in possession of marijuana and a firearm. And now, one month later, once again he’s in jail.
There is some good news, though.
First, the Pollack family was reportedly still able to enjoy the festival.
And second, Kodak Black still plans to start the scholarship, despite not getting paid.
“Kodak was very disappointed that he couldn’t make something he thought was going to be very special happen at Rolling Loud,” his attorney, Bradford Cohen, said to The Blast. “We spent weeks trying to coordinate the surprise in Meadow Pollack’s memory. Kodak still intends to fund a scholarship in her memory.”
Excellent news. It’s just too bad about Kodak. While he’s a kind, talented young man who rose to success after being raised by a single mother in a public housing project in Pompano Beach, he’s been unable to detach himself from the street life, as noted by one social media user:
Kodak seems like he has a good heart but just can’t leave the street stuff behind. It’s unfortunate too because I think he does want to do a lot of good. Just hard when you grow up like he did to figure it out

What separates Kodak from Meadow, however, is choice. He has a choice to improve his life and better himself. Her choices were robbed on Feb. 14, 2018, when a deranged man entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and proceeded to open fire with an AR-15, killing 17 people, including Meadow.
Both her father, Andrew Pollack, and brother, Hunter, have since become dedicated school safety activists. Both fervently believe that America’s schools need better security in the form of bulletproof glass, metal detectors, enhanced door lock systems, ID checkpoints and armed school guards.
Though Kodak continues to make bad choices in his personal life, he has shown a willingness to make good choices on behalf of others. Earlier this month he reportedly donated $12,500 to help students in the Cleburne Independent School District in Texas.
According to reporters, local 14-year-old student Paide Cook had recently launched a campaign to provide the district with enough notebooks and pencils for every student. When Kodak heard about it, he reportedly pitched in $12,500 for the notebooks.

Despite his good deeds, the rapper reportedly currently faces 10 years in prison over his prior charges.
“According to court documents obtained by XXL on Tuesday (May 14), the Florida rapper faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for allegedly lying in order to obtain a firearm at Lou’s Police Distributors gun store in Hialeah, Fla. on two separate occasions earlier this year,” XXL magazine has confirmed. “He also faces a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.”
“On Monday (May 13), Kodak Black’s criminal attorney, Bradford Cohen, confirmed to XXL that the 21-year-old rapper has been indicted on two counts of making a false statement in connection with the acquisition or attempted acquisition of a firearm.”
“Prosecutors allege that Kodak lied while filling out his Firearms Transaction Record (Form 4473), which is the form that must be filled out in order to purchase a registered firearm.”
If Meadow were still here, she’d no doubt want Kodak to do better for himself.
