Even Chuck Todd balks when VP Harris says border is ‘secure’ – MTP host likens ‘threat within’ to 9/11

Even compliant NBC liberal Chuck Todd seemed skeptical when so-called Border Czar Kamala Harris insisted that the U.S. southern border is secure.

In an interview that aired on Sunday, Todd sat down with Vice President Harris at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, and among other things, asked her directly if she considers the border secure, as robotic Homeland Security Secretary Alejando Mayorkas has  previously claimed.

In response, Harris — who seemed halting in trying to answer — spewed some redundant word salad that failed to address the question in a manner for which she has become known.

“I think that there is no question that we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do. The first request we made, pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship. The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed,” she claimed in the video clip embedded above.

Critics might wonder who “broke” the system in the first place.

Comprehensive immigration reform, a.k.a. amnesty, or however it is alternatively defined, does not address the ongoing humanitarian, national security, law enforcement, or public health crisis owing to the open borders, catch-and-release, deportation-averse Biden administration illegal immigration agenda, which has given open season to drug smugglers and human traffickers.

Criticizing the secure, orderly border under former President Donald Trump, moreover, perhaps appeared to be a form of projection by Harris.

It seemed to be even too much for Todd, who politely responded that “we’re gonna have two million people cross this border for the first time ever. You’re confident this border is secure?”

We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours, and our administration. But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix, given the deterioration that happened over the last four years. We also have to put in place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and are prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship. We don’t have that in place because people are playing politics in a state like this and in Congress. By the way, you want to talk about bipartisanship, on an issue that at one time was a bipartisan issue, both in terms of Republican senators and even presidents,” Harris claimed.

For most Democrats, bipartisanship means the GOP caving to the demands of the left rather than some kind of sensible compromise, if one is even possible on the illegal immigration issue, which progressives see as a long-run power grab.

Parenthetically, Democrats (and establishment Republicans) in Congress seem more interested in sending billions of dollars to protect Ukraine’s border that increasing resources for the stretched-to-the-limit U.S. Border Patrol and other related agencies.

Todd apparently determined that he needed to throw Harris a lifeline by implying, with elitist connotations, that a mass immigration solution involving “lower wage labor” could reduce inflation, a notion with which Harris seemed to agree.

Harris went on to offer solutions for securing the border that have little to do with securing the border:

“I do believe that for all reasonable people — all reasonable people are motivated and desirous that we would get something done. I think a big part of the problem, though, is [there’s] been political gamesmanship with this issue, suggesting that it’s a zero-sum game.

“If you want to deal with the issue, there are practical solutions, which include creating a pathway to citizenship, fixing a broken immigration system, deal with the root causes of why people are fleeing their home, when most people don’t want to leave home, and if they do, it’s usually because they’re fleeing some harm or they simply can’t take of their basic needs if they stay. There are solutions. And, sadly, this has become such a partisan issue instead of something where we work on it together, agreeing that what we’re doing is not working as a nation. It’s not working,” Harris contended, with more apparent projection.

Noting the 21st anniversary of 9/11, Todd would ask Harris about the focus having to  “shift from foreign terror to the threat from within.”

“It was twenty-one years ago that we were attacked by foreign terrorists. Not quite 20 years after 9/11, the Capitol came under attack from domestic terrorists,” he said .

“I think it is very dangerous and I think it is very harmful. And it makes us weaker,” the vice president replied.

Harris particularly lamented that 11 so-called election deniers are running for the office of secretary of state around the country and “couple that with people holding some of the highest offices in our country who refuse to condemn an insurrection on January 6.”

Democrats, who have positioned themselves, from President Joe Biden on down, as democracy protectors,  have a history of denying election outcomes, however:
