Surprise! Dana Bash puts Adam Schiff on hot seat for not calling witnesses who ‘challenge’ Jan. 6 narrative

In a “hell must have frozen over” moment, CNN anchor Dana Bash pinned a squirming Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) over why the Jan. 6 committee is not interviewing witnesses who might “challenge” the narrative of the inquisition.

He, of course, hastily deflected and denied that is what the committee is doing despite all evidence to the contrary.

During the Sunday morning interview, Bash spoke with Schiff about the ongoing public committee hearings on “State of the Union.” She cornered him multiple times, asking why he hasn’t revealed evidence he claims to have that former President Donald Trump had been involved in plans to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

What is going to come of this?” Bash asked during the interview. “Is the Justice Department going to file criminal charges? Why haven’t you given everything over to the Justice Department that they are asking for — and they say they need — in order to potentially do that?”

“I don’t think Congress has ever done that,” Schiff weaselly responded, “Congress never says, ‘Hey, Justice Department, other branches of government, just come and go through our files.’ We also don’t say ‘We want to go over and rifle through your files.’ When the Justice Department asks for things specifically… we work with them, and we’ll work with them here.”

“Have you seen evidence that the Justice Department has already opened an investigation into the former president?” Bash pointedly asked the congressman.

Schiff, looking and sounding uncomfortable, told Bash that nothing in the public record indicated the Justice Department had begun to do so.

“I have not seen, for example, grand juries convene in places they would be convened,” he replied.

“You’ve been critical of the Justice Department for moving slowly. If you’ve done so much work, why not help them out?” she pressed Schiff, alluding to the fact that the January 6th Committee has not handed what they have discovered directly over to the Department of Justice.

“Well, you know, we certainly will help them. We want them to particularize what they’re asking for and it’s our intention when we conclude the investigation to make public our findings in great detail,” Schiff deflected. “But, you know, we have a job to do as well. We’re doing that. And we’re doing this consistent with how the — our branch of government has operated and the executive branch has operated.”

Bash, to her credit, didn’t give up. She went on to ask the leftist Democrat about witness testimony that has already been made public. She wanted to know why the Jan. 6 committee seems to be avoiding witnesses who might “challenge” the narrative put forth by the panel.

“Why aren’t you calling witnesses in a public way who might challenge the committee?” she bluntly asked Schiff. “Is that intentional because you don’t want to deviate from the storyline that you’re trying to present to the public and, of course, potentially to the Justice Department?”

“No. I mean, we are interviewing, frankly, anyone that has relevant evidence,” a stunned Schiff argued. “We’re putting that relevant evidence before the public and we’re doing it in a way that is the most cohesive and that we can get across the salient points to the public.”

His reply to Bash was a non-answer and many consider it very interesting that the only ones who have “relevant evidence” seem to be those who have bad things to say about Trump. It is reminiscent of the impeachment proceedings against the former president that Schiff was also leading.
