‘We’re in a war against truth’: GOP’s Loudermilk hits Schiff for ‘hypocrisy’ of Colbert staff Capitol arrests

It’s a tired old expression, but it remains the norm that if Democrats didn’t have double standards they would have no standards at all. However, the latest display of hypocrisy has one member of the GOP crying foul against Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and declaring that “we’re in a war against truth.”

The grassroots Faith and Freedom Coalition concluded their annual Road To Majority Policy Conference Saturday at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, TN featuring such prominent speakers over three days as former President Donald Trump and Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) also participated in the event and he did not hold back his ire for Schiff and the sham Jan. 6 committee in light of recent news.

“Adam Schiff, a member of the Jan. 6 committee, illegally brought Stephen Colbert’s comedy team into the Capitol and left them unescorted at night, and they were arrested,” Loudermilk told the gathering during his speech according to the Washington Examiner.

“We’re in a war against truth in this nation,” the Georgia lawmaker announced. “If they can destroy the truth, they will undermine everything that we stand for in this nation and everything that it’s about. And they do this through hypocrisy.”

A day before the conference began, it was reported that staffers from CBS’s “Late Show” had been arrested after Schiff had provided questionable levels of access that resulted in their unsupervised presence in the Longworth House Office Building. After a staffer for Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) allegedly allowed the CBS employees inside after they had been escorted out earlier, they were arrested while reportedly filming a skit for Colbert’s late-night program.

“They’ve accused me of giving this family that came to my office for a meeting. We took them to lunch, [and] they’re accusing us of that being a reconnaissance tour,” Loudermilk said to the conference referencing the questioning he received at the behest of the Jan. 6 witch hunt that sought to pin the representative for wrongdoing on Jan. 5, 2021 when he escorted a family throughout the Capitol during normal hours.

Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger had asserted that authorities did “not consider any of the activities we observed as suspicious” pertaining to the tour that Loudermilk had provided.

“So while they’re accusing me of giving illegal tours of the Capitol,” the lawmaker highlighted, “they are giving illegal tours of the Capitol.”

The group from CBS were reportedly charged with unlawful entry before being released later the same night. Many have drawn attention to the added hypocrisy this lax treatment has demonstrated with Fox News host Tucker Carlson suggesting “Stephen Colbert’s producers just committed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol” and “the point of them being there was for them to harass sitting members of Congress.”

As such, Carlson concluded they should receive the same treatment as those who trespassed at the Capitol on Jan. 6, “Joking aside, how can they not be held for a year and a half in solitary confinement without being charged? Because the precedent is in place.”
