‘Gotta go!’: Jill Biden cuts press Q&A on price hikes short so she and Joe can hit the beach

President Joe Biden was grilled by the press over skyrocketing inflation and horrendous gas prices as he prepped to depart with wife and cat in tow to the beach, but the first lady was having none of it.

As he stood outside Marine One while first cat Willow was being loaded on board, the media peppered him with questions on the economy. Jill Biden cut them off telling her husband, “We gotta go!” It appeared to be one more instance of the first lady stepping in to rescue her husband from the big bad press and their probing questions as they flew off to their Delaware home for Father’s Day and their 45th anniversary.

On Friday, Biden got very testy with the media over inflation and was less than honest about it, calling it a worldwide problem while not addressing his own handling of the emergency. He essentially claimed it wasn’t his fault and blamed oil companies for rising gas prices.

“It should not be this high,” the president curtly told reporters. “They’re making exorbitant profits, number one. Number two, I’ve contacted them, my team has, to ask what their plans are and to give any suggestions they have.”

“There are 9,000 leases — 9,000 — that they can drill … but they’re not doing it,” he added.

“Number three, I think we’re going to be in a position where we’re gonna…” Biden started as the first lady intervened, nudging him to Marine One. He took a final question about when he would visit India, waffling and saying he would at some point.

He also warned US citizens to not go to Ukraine as he told the press he had no idea where three missing Americans are in the country. There are reports floating around that they have been captured by Russians.

Biden told reporters, “I have been briefed” about US citizens being captured in Ukraine, but “we don’t know where they are. But I want to reiterate: Americans should not be going to Ukraine now.”

Biden defended his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia next month where he will meet with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, presumably to beg for oil. He has been rebuffed by the Saudis a number of times previously over the issue.

“I’m not going to meet with MBS. I’m going to an international meeting and he’s going to be part of it,” Biden clarified.

The president has been heavily criticized for frequent trips to his Delaware home. He spent approximately one-quarter of his first year in office at the home on the beach, according to the New York Post. Very little is known about visitors, official meetings, or less formal lobbying attempts that took place there.

In April, the Secret Service unbelievably claimed to the New York Post that it had “no records” of visitors to Biden’s two Delaware residences and could not turn over that information in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

Biden admitted in an interview with the Associated Press on Thursday that Americans are “really, really down,” referring to their morale over the state of the economy. He then asserted that the blame for the 41-year high inflation rate could not be placed squarely on him.

“Isn’t it kind of interesting? If it’s my fault, why is it the case in every other major industrial country in the world that inflation is higher? You ask yourself that? I’m not trying to be a wise guy,” he told AP White House reporter Josh Boak.

His approval ratings are continuing to crater. A USA Today poll that came out Friday shows that only 39 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s overall performance in office. Forty-seven percent “strongly” disapprove of his actions as president. Sixteen percent inconceivably “strongly” approve of what he is doing.
