WH economic advisor grilled on inflation excuses: People aren’t saying ‘Damn you, Putin’ at the pump

Lacking any real solution to the record gas prices that are eating Americans alive, the White House continues to duck responsibility for a crisis largely of its own making by blaming it all on Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

But the tiresome excuse is losing traction, even from some in the biased leftist media.

On a day when the dismal results of the latest consumer price index came out, showing a staggering 8.6 inflation rate for May, the highest number in four decades, White House economic advisor Brian Deese was tripped up by MSNBC’s Willie Geist in the middle of his song and dance routine, being put on the spot over the talking point of “Putin’s price hike” that has been hammered by Democrats desperate to duck responsibility for their failed policies.

Deese, who heads up the National Economic Council and is yet another of the Obama era retreads employed by the Biden administration, appeared on “Morning Joe” and jawboned about how such Democrat wish list items as lowering prescription drug prices and bringing down utility costs would offset the pain at the pump as U.S. gas prices are now averaging $5 a gallon for the first time ever.

“So Brian, what about the Fed chairman?” the show’s namesake Joe Scarborough asked. “At some point, as we would say in northwest Florida, the horse is already out of the barn and the horse isn’t transitory, the horse is here to stay. We’re up to 8.6 percent, that 8.6 percent can become 10, it can become 12 if the Fed doesn’t start acting aggressively. Does Chairman Powell and the Fed, do they need to jack rates up at a faster clip?”

After saying that the administration is giving the Federal Reserve “the space to do everything that it needs to take on inflation,” Deese was then challenged by Geist about the White House’s Putin-blaming which doesn’t appear to be fooling as many Americans as the regime had hoped.

“Brian, it’s true of course that Russia’s war in Ukraine is impacting oil prices, yes,” Geist said, “but I promise you the landscaper two days ago I talked to at the gas pump who was trying to fill up two cans and backpack blowers, and mowers and his truck, was not going, ‘Damn you, Putin’ so what do you say to him? What do you say to families who can’t afford all their groceries right now?”

Deese acknowledged that families have been suffering from inflation but fell far short of offering any solutions, instead, he stuck to the script by blaming it all on Putin, an inadvertent admission that the Biden regime isn’t going to take the reins of Scarborough’s metaphorical horse by using strong leadership to provide immediate help to household budgets, especially not in a critical election year.

Also on Friday, Deese’s boss stuck to the script during a speech delivered at the Port of Los Angeles after the dismal figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics came out, insisting that the wily Russian was at fault for the consequences of his own war on the domestic fossil fuels industry that began hours after he was sworn in with the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline.

“Today’s inflation report confirmed what Americans already know, Putin’s price hike is hitting America hard,” Biden said. “My administration is going to continue everything we can to lower the prices for the American people, and the Congress has to act, and they have been of late.”

Putin may make for a convenient scapegoat for a spectacularly failed administration but the ugly truth is that the White House is a rudderless ship piloted by a clueless captain who isn’t about to call for a course correction to avoid running the country into the rocks.
