As the collective meltdown on the left spirals out of control following a leak that Roe v. Wade will be overturned by the Supreme Court, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) issued a stinging rebuke of the “Trump justices” on the high court Monday night and blamed Republican lawmakers for voting them in.

Politico broke the story reporting that an anonymous individual gave them a draft opinion on the case authored by Justice Samuel Alito. It concluded that Roe v. Wade and the court’s 1992 decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey have no grounding in the Constitution. The final ruling is expected to be handed down in June.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Alito wrote in the “Opinion of the Court.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

“If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past fifty years – not just on women but on all Americans,” Pelosi tweeted in outrage.

“The Republican-appointed Justices’ reported votes to overturn Roe v. Wade would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history,” she blisteringly added.

Without mentioning the dangerous and enormous gravity of the leak itself, Pelosi declared that the GOP has ‘devolved’ into the “party of Trump” and every Senator that voted for Trump justices will have to “explain themselves.”

“The party of Lincoln and Eisenhower has now completely devolved into the party of Trump. Every Republican Senator who supported Sen. McConnell and voted for Trump Justices pretending that this day would never come will now have to explain themselves to the American people,” Pelosi said, slamming everyone on the right she could fit into one sentence.

Schumer echoed her words exactly from a joint statement released in another tweet that accused the conservative justices on the Supreme Court of lying.

“Several conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the people, have lied to the Senate, ripped up the Constitution, and defiled precedent and the Court’s reputation—all at the expense of women who could soon be stripped of bodily autonomy and constitutional rights,” he said.

Justice Alito was joined by constitutional originalist Justice Clarence Thomas and three Trump nominees: Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett in favor of overturning the abortion mandate. If the case is overturned, abortion will not be federally outlawed. It will be up to individual states to decide whether to make it legal or not.

The leak is unprecedented and many are positing it was done to sway the court’s opinion under public pressure and force it to reverse course. Calls to pack the Supreme Court and to do away with the 60-vote legislative filibuster immediately followed the leak as did protests.

Democrats are now attempting to use the leak to play to their base for the upcoming midterms in November.

“If this report is true, this Republican attack on abortion access, birth control, and women’s health care has dramatically escalated the stakes of the 2022 election. At this critical moment, we must protect and expand Democrats’ Senate majority with the power to confirm or reject Supreme Court justices,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Executive Director Christie Roberts proclaimed via a statement, according to The Hill.

“If #SCOTUS is going to legislate from the bench and turn back the clock 50 years on #RoeVWade, then the Senate needs to pass my Women’s Health Protection Act, and if we need to eliminate the filibuster to get it done, we should do that too,” Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) wrote on Twitter.

“People should take to the streets across the country. Right now, the Senate can pass an exception to the filibuster and codify Roe v. Wade. This is the most dramatic setback for women’s rights in decades.,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the chairwoman of the House Progressive Caucus, wrote on Twitter.

“I will continue to fight tooth and nail for every single person’s right to have a legal and safe abortion in this country. We will not accept this sitting down and we WILL take this to the streets and the voting booth,” she continued.
