‘We see this at every turn’: Newt Gingrich predicts end of Democrat Party’s grip on black community

In a new opinion piece published by Fox News, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich assesses the state of the Democratic Party and concludes that their decades-long grip on black Americans is beginning to loosen—and might be on the verge of crumbling altogether.

“When historians look back on Donald Trump’s legacy,” Gingrich wrote, “I believe that his work on behalf of black Americans will be at the top of any list of his accomplishments.

“Whether considering his efforts to lower black unemployment, the way he stood for law and order and making our cities safer, or his work to expand the Republican Party to the black community, it is undeniable that Trump has done more for black Americans than any Republican president since Abraham Lincoln.”

Gingrich then singled out as particularly illustrative two important Republican candidacies that are generating headlines and inducing a great deal of discomfort and dismay in Democratic circles. One is the candidacy of Herschel Walker, who’s running to become U.S. Senator from Georgia; the other is that of T.W. Shannon, who is campaigning in Oklahoma’s contentious Senate race.

Herschel Walker is a Heisman Trophy winner and former running back who played professionally with the Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles, and Giants. A recent poll shows that Walker is absolutely dominating the field for the GOP nomination, with a hefty 66% support; his closest rival has only 7% support. And there’s little doubt that Donald Trump’s endorsement of Walker’s candidacy has a great deal to do with that sizable lead.

Meanwhile, T. W. Shannon has already distinguished himself as Oklahoma’s first black Republican Speaker of the House. But more importantly, he has a proven track record of accomplishments, including scrapping affirmative action in the state and overhauling its welfare program, which includes mandating a 20-hour workweek for able-bodied recipients.

“If these two are elected,” Gingrich predicted, “the Republican Party will have achieved something remarkable. Walker and Shannon would join Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina in the U.S. Senate. So, Republicans would have three elected Black senators—two from the Deep South. That’s two more than the Democrats.”

So what’s behind the change of heart among black Americans? According to Gingrich, it comes down to which party is actually helping the black community, as opposed to merely spewing empty rhetoric.

“It’s the Democrats who oppose school choice, putting black children into hellish school districts with no shot at a good education. It’s the Democrats who support radical pro-abortion policies that have resulted in nearly 400,000 abortions per year. It’s the Democrats who support defunding the police as violent crime is rising in communities nationwide.”

And it’s not only that. Gingrich explains that with each passing year, the Democratic Party becomes more in thrall to its far-left elements, espousing an ever more radical ideology that is alienating to ordinary Americans and “increasingly hostile to any thought that does not sound like it was first invented in the Cal-Berkeley faculty lounge.”

“We see this at every turn,” Gingrich wrote, “whether it’s administrative rule-making by Biden’s team, out-of-control spending policies that are driving inflation like we have not seen since the Carter administration, or a continued refusal to open up the American energy sector. What do these things have in common? Woke policymaking by administration liberals that directly hurts middle class Americans.”

And the candidacies of Walker and Shannon, as well as the growing presence of prominent black Republicans like Allen West, Virginia’s Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, and Michigan congressional candidate John James, indicate that many black Americans seem to be fed up with the absurdities of the Democrats—and are seeking a new home in the Republican Party.
