MSNBC analyst slams Republican Party as ‘front’ for MAGA ‘terrorist organization’ really running the show

It might be a good time for MSNBC to start getting some new material.

Now that’s not to say that there’s nothing amusing about the current script. It can be quite entertaining to see another hysterical political professor or “analyst” appear on the network and rave about threats to “Our Democracy” while denouncing Trump supporters as Fascists, Nazis, Putin stooges, and anti-democratic terrorists.

For instance, check out the latest iteration of this rather time-worn trope. On Monday, political professor Jason Johnson, a regular MSNBC contributor, appeared on the aptly named “The Beat” to promulgate yet another variation on the old, old theme.

The esteemed professor spoke at length to the show’s host, Ari Melber, about the multiplying evils of the Right. One of the favorite topics, of course, is what the Left is pleased to call the “Big Lie”— that is, the widespread belief that the 2020 presidential election was not exactly as above board as perhaps it ought to have been.

Reverting to his default setting, Melber spent a great deal of time pontificating about the brilliance of Barack Obama, and how the former president had sagely predicted the dangers to self-government posed by freedom of thought.

Then, Melber lobbed this humdinger of a question at Professor Johnson: “You’re a professor—how do you even have self-governance, if a significant quantum of the populace, ah, is completely confused about what reality is?”

“I used to always say, Ari,” the professor replied, “with any sort of political conflict—I was saying this during Ferguson—the country can’t heal if we can’t agree on the diagnosis of what got us sick.”

The extreme banality of that strikingly unoriginal platitude seemed lost on both Johnson and Melber, so the professor continued: “At the end of the day, you have a certain segment of the population that has told the Republican Party we do not believe in a multicultural democracy. So anything that you have to do to make sure the country stays in the hands of straight white men is okay. That’s the danger. That’s what Vice President Harris talked about when she talked about the rise of the right and white supremacy.”

The real danger, it seems, is quoting Vice President Harris as though she were an intellectual luminary. Moreover, Professor Johnson neglected to mention that the Democratic Party seemed to stop believing in multicultural democracy—or any kind of democracy, for that matter—beginning with the election of George W. Bush over two decades ago. Since then, the party’s belief in democracy has curiously waxed and waned with their electoral fortunes.

No matter. Johnson had a great deal more to say about Our Democracy and the threats arrayed against it.

“That is why I have said I don’t think we have two parties in this country anymore,” he continued. “One is a semi-governing party called the Democrats, and the other is a dime store front for a terrorist organization called MAGA.”

At this point, Melber lifted his eyebrows and nodded in agreement, signaling the incontrovertible wisdom of Johnson’s characterization.

“That is the real problem here,” the professor explained. “It is no longer about lies and disinformation. It’s about our sitting government controlling dangerous people who do not believe in democracy anymore. This election—while it’s a cliche to say every election is the most important—if these secretaries of state get into office, there’s no way they’ll let any Democrat win the electoral vote in 2024.”

So there you have it. The gist of Professor Johnson’s argument is that Trump supporters are terrorists who want to put an end to Our Democracy.

As we said at the beginning—it’s time for MSNBC to get some new material.
