Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) accused Democrats of misogyny on Tuesday after they demanded that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recuse himself from January 6-related cases due to his wife Ginni Thomas’ texts with former Trump administration chief-of-staff Mark Meadows following the 2020 presidential election.
“I look forward to all the calls for Joe Biden’s resignation from all of these Democrats on exactly the same logic that you just outlined, Sean. So, if Hunter Biden ends up getting indicted, as looks increasingly likely, then I guess the president needs to resign for that,” Hawley remarked on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s show.
“The idea that Ginni Thomas, his wife, is supposed to sign off on her texts and on her work with her husband as if he’s in charge of her in some way, isn’t that misogyny? Isn’t that exactly what the Democrats are saying they are against?” the senator astutely asked.
The “Hannity” host surmised after speaking with Hawley that there is a coordinated attack from Democrats to “smear” Clarence Thomas. Democrats have been after Thomas for decades ever since he was confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.

“She’s an independent, adult woman, it just seems a little strange to me all of these calls for her husband to be what, like, minding her better? Frankly, I think it’s kind of misogynistic,” the Missouri senator also told correspondent Manu Raju at CNN.
“She’s a private individual. He’s a justice on the US Supreme Court, but I think this idea that he is somehow automatically responsible for everything he says – what does that mean? Does she have to get his permission?” Hawley asked.
Asked Josh Hawley about Ginni Thomas’ texts to Meadows seeking to overturn elections, and he said that it’s “kind of misogynistic” to suggest that her husband — Clarence Thomas — should recuse from Jan. 6 cases. He wouldn’t weigh in on her texts, noting she’s a “private citizen”

The senator believes that Democrats are displaying a sexist double standard and, in essence, are trying to make the most conservative justice on the high court responsible for his wife’s actions.
Ginni Thomas texted Meadows 29 times after the election, reportedly urging him to tell then-President Donald Trump to fight the results, according to the Washington Post.
“Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!” Ginni Thomas texted Meadows on Nov. 10, 2020. “You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.”
Two weeks after that, Meadows wrote to Ginni Thomas, stating, “This is a fight of good versus evil. Evil always looks like the victor until the King of Kings triumphs. Do not grow weary in well doing. The fight continues. I have staked my career on it. Well at least my time in DC on it.”
“Thank you!!” she responded. “Needed that! This plus a conversation with my best friend just now… I will try to keep holding on. America is worth it!”
The left is also accusing her of invoking a QAnon conspiracy theory that is allegedly related to Trump and watermarked mail-in ballots.
The Democrats are using the texts as fodder to call for the constitutionalist justice to recuse himself from Jan. 6 or 2020 election-related cases or they are threatening to impeach him. The spurious threats and allegations will almost certainly go nowhere.
1 Donald Trump is not going to prison.
2 Clarence Thomas is not going to resign.
3 No Republican lawmaker will be prosecuted for their role in Jan 6.

Genni Thomas could be called in front of the Jan. 6 committee over the text messages and Democrats smell blood in the political waters.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been all over the news calling for Thomas to recuse himself.

“The facts are clear here. This is unbelievable. You have the wife of a sitting Supreme Court justice advocating for an insurrection, advocating for overturning a legal election to the sitting president’s chief of staff and she also knows this election, these cases, are going to come before her husband,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) raged.
She told ABC’s This Week, “This is a textbook case for removing him, recusing him from these decisions.”

“You cannot have a justice hearing cases related to this election, and, in fact, the ethics rules that apply to all the other federal judges say that if it involves a family member—the appearance of impartiality—they have to recuse themselves,” Klobacher railed.
Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) have also called for Thomas’ recusal.
“I think Chief Justice Roberts ought to demand a public explanation from Justice Thomas, and he must absolutely recuse himself,” Blumenthal told CNN on Monday.
Sen. Corey Booker jumped on the bandwagon as well on Sunday, asserting that Justice Elena Kagan has recused herself numerous times, “not necessarily because she was conflicted, but because she understood that even the appearance of impropriety would delegitimize the court.”
The Supreme Court “needs that legitimacy in this nation,” Booker proclaimed. “So clearly, Justice Thomas should have recused himself. That’s not even a question here.”
Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy last week both defended Thomas’ ability to remain impartial. Sen. Rick Scott did as well on “Fox News Sunday.”
“We ought to leave family members out of all of this. It’s ridiculous to attack members of a public figure’s family,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said on Monday. “I just think piling onto family members of public figures is just an unfortunate development.”
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) also came out in support of Justice Thomas.
