Things are about to get very exciting for some members of the Big Apple’s elite social stratum.
That’s because the strange and sordid story of the “Sarah Lawrence Sex Cult” just got even stranger and more sordid—if such a thing were possible.
A list of more than 100 prominent New Yorkers was “inadvertently” released and outed them as clients of Claudia Drury, the now 31-year-old woman who was caught up as a prostitute in the scheme allegedly run by Lawrence Ray who is accused of exploiting several of his daughter’s friends at Sarah Lawrence College for years.
The list of Drury’s clients was “accidentally” released by the prosecution earlier this week, and it’s a doozy. The list was seen by reporters at the New York Post, who said it’s a veritable who’s who of Manhattan’s elite power-brokers and cultural luminaries. It reportedly includes Wall Street titans, high-profile names in the arts industry, and prominent members of the justice system.
The list is said to contain some well-known names, including that of a financier who is also linked to Jeffrey Epstein, a former New York State Supreme Court Judge, an Amazon account executive, and an executive at Gap, along with her husband. Perhaps inevitably, the name of a Washington, D.C. lobbyist has also been spotted on the list.
Last week, the trial of Lawrence Ray began in a Manhattan federal court. Ray, 62, happens to be a former Wall Street trader who served time for a securities fraud conviction in the 2000s. In 2010, Ray decided to take his con artistry and criminality to an entirely new level.
Shortly after being released from prison, Ray decided to move into his daughter’s dorm room at the tony Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers. The fact that a grown man, and an ex-con to boot, was allowed to move into his daughter’s dorm room without so much as a raised eyebrow is hardly the weirdest part of this story.
Ray quickly set to work allegedly conning his daughter’s friends and fellow Sarah Lawrence students, beguiling them with stories of his alleged service as a CIA operative, and using impromptu “therapy” sessions to exert control over them.
Things took a sinister turn when Ray subsequently convinced five of his daughter’s classmates to move in with him into a one-bedroom apartment on New York’s Upper East Side. Over the next decade, Ray allegedly extorted money out of his roommates by conspiring with another Sarah Lawrence student, Isabella Pollok, to film them making false confessions of poisoning Ray and damaging his property.
Worse, Ray is accused of upping his game by bullying one of the students, Claudia Drury, now 31, into becoming a prostitute. According to a report in The Independent detailing testimony from the trial, Drury accused Ray of compelling her to perform sex acts with strangers, and to begin working at a New York sex club.
Drury is said to have made over $2 million during her time as a prostitute, a lucrative haul that allegedly almost all went to Ray, to help fund his lifestyle and criminal enterprises.
For his part, Ray has collapsed several times during the proceedings, after suffering “medical emergencies.”
Larry Ray trial proceedings end abruptly again with the accused sex trafficker being wheeled out of court in a stretcher to an ambulance—in the middle of key witness testimony.

The Manhattan US Attorney’s Office reportedly uploaded Drury’s so-called client list to a public share system by accident, the New York Post noted. The list, which Drury sent in a 2018 email to Isabella Pollok, was not meant to be shared and a representative for the office issued a statement to media outlets following the error.
“Please do not reproduce, share, or use this exhibit in any way. If you have downloaded this file, please delete it,” the rep said.
