Tensions rise in Rome as protests against mandates reportedly turn violent, Left calls for more bans

As thousands march in the streets of Rome to protest a looming vaccine mandate, the Italian government is being pressured by leftists to ban what they have branded as violent neo-fascist movements.

On Saturday anti-vaxx demonstrators reportedly trashed a union building and then attacked a hospital emergency room. The media is painting it as ongoing violence taking place during the protests and they are comparing it to the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

Thirty-eight police officers were reportedly injured and 12 protesters were arrested and hauled off during the protest including leaders from the group called Forza Nuova (New Power) according to Politico. The far-right branding of protesters is eerily reminiscent of how Democrats demonize those in the United States who are against forced COVID mandates.

The group allegedly does not allow those who are vaccinated to join their ranks. They have been a presence at anti-vaccine and anti-mask protests since the beginning of the pandemic.

A mandatory health pass is being imposed on Italians in all private and public work sectors starting on Oct. 15. Employees must prove they are vaccinated or have a negative test result or they face being suspended without pay. The pass is already required in Italy to enter museums, theaters, gyms, and indoor restaurants, as well as on long-distance trains and buses or domestic flights.

Their version of the Democratic Party filed a motion on Monday in parliament that is demanding the government break up fascist groups, proclaiming it’s time to “end ambiguity about fascism” in Italy. Fascism is still a very touchy subject in Italy after Mussolini’s rule but now the term is being applied to those who don’t agree with the government instead of actual fascists.

Simona Malpezzi, who is a Democratic senator and lead signatory of the motion, proclaimed in a statement, “Our motion asks that the government, through the instruments provided for by the laws in force, dissolve the neo-fascist organization Forza Nuova and all the other formations that refer to fascism.”

And in another echo of American Democrats, the motion called the “violent” protests “an attack on democracy,” adding that violence “as a method of political struggle can never be tolerated.”

Unsurprisingly, the 5Star Movement, which is allied with the Democrats and is the largest party in parliament jumped on board as well with their “down with fascists!” sentiment.

Right-wing parties were having none of what the leftists were selling on this. They asserted that such measures should apply to all totalitarian groups, whether left- or right-wing.

Anna Maria Bernini, a senator from Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia Party, astutely posited, “The violence directed at our police, the assault on the seat of the union, have been condemned by all political forces and there should be no ambiguity against violence … But these events shouldn’t be exploited for political gain. There is no good totalitarianism and bad totalitarianism.”

Meanwhile, as protesters marched past the American embassy, they chanted a widespread American sentiment, “F**k Joe Biden!”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit with the Pope and foreign leaders was interrupted by the protest as well. She had to cut it short due to security concerns.

The mainstream media may be ignoring the protests but social media is on fire over them:
