In a meet-up in Helsinki, Finland, today, U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, engaged in what’s being characterized as a confidential, six-hour discussion with his military Russian counterpart.
“It was a productive meeting. When military leaders of great powers communicate, the world is a safer place,” Gen. Milley reportedly remarked after the session.
A prolocutor for critical race theory fan Milley, the latter who has admitted to being an avid reader of the works of Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong, implied that there is nothing to see here.
“The spokesman for the Joint Staff, Col. Dave Butler, said Milley met with Chief of Russian General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov on Wednesday in Finland. But Butler added in a statement, ‘In accordance with past practice, both have agreed to keep the specific details of their conversation private,'” Fox News reported.
The Milley-Gerasimov meeting is a “continuation of talks aimed at improving military leadership communication between the two nations for the purposes of risk reduction and operational de-confliction,” Butler added.
During the Trump administration, Democrats and their media allies would typically plunge into histrionics over any diplomatic outreach to the Vladimir Putin regime, especially during the height of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. President Joe Biden himself met with President Putin in June with little or nothing of the sort of outcry or scrutiny that would have likely occurred when his predecessor was still POTUS.
This behind-closed-doors meeting comes even as Milley’s communications during the Trump administration with another military counterpart is still creating controversy.
According to a new book by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, Milley allegedly took it upon himself to promise Gen. Li Zuocheng of the CCP in one or two phone calls that he would provide advanced warning of any theoretical U.S. military action against the communist regime.
The calls, that critics might consider collusion, were allegedly placed on October 30, 2020 and January 8, 2021.
Col. Butler has also implied that there is nothing to see here, the contact was more or less routine, and that, among other things, the general coordinated the calls with the Defense Department.
Christopher Miller, the acting Defense Secretary who was in charge at the time, claimed, however, that “if the reporting in Woodward’s book is accurate, it represents a disgraceful and unprecedented act of insubordination by the Nation’s top military officer,” and if true, “[Milley] must resign immediately or be fired by the Secretary of Defense to guarantee the sanctity of the officer corps…As secretary of defense, I did not and would not ever authorize such conduct.”
Joe Biden has expressed complete confidence in Milley, so it seems like the general has job security.
According to several media outlets, Moscow is not the least bit enamored of a Biden administration proposal to establish counter-terrorism operations in Uzbekistan or elsewhere in Central Asia in the aftermath of the Afghanistan troop withdrawal.
In a broadcast last week, Fox News host Tucker Carlson played 2015-vintage footage in which Milley asserted that “China is not an enemy” and that Russia is America’s only true threat.
