Steve Hilton: Divisive General Mark Milley should be removed immediately

Fox News host Steve Hilton thinks it’s time for “pompous” and “pandering” U.S. Army General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to look for a new line of work.

“Gen. Milley has made himself a divisive, factional figure, and for that reason alone, should be removed immediately,” Hilton declared Sunday on the show that focuses on positive populism. He also chided military or corporate leaders who feel that they “have to genuflect at the altar of wokeism.”

The moderator of “The Next Revolution” was reacting to Milley’s recent Capitol Hill testimony in which the four-star general sounded like a fanboy for teaching divisive, far-left critical race theory in the military as well as his attributing the January 6 chaos at the U.S. Capitol to so-called white rage.

Hilton cited a recent Wall Street Journal column that compared critical race theory to ideological indoctrination that was commonplace in medieval Europe or in China under Chairman Mao and, as such, is antithetical to the principles inherent in western civilization.

“That’s why it was so devastating and depressing to see the man in charge of our military, Mark Milley, pandering to wokeism in Congress last week,” Hilton insisted.

“He said it’s his job to understand what’s going on in America to teach all points of view. But the entire purpose of wokeism and critical theory, as we’ve explained here many times, is to deny the validity of different points of view. Teaching it, even tolerating it for one second, is the opposite of what Milley pompously claimed he’s doing.

“At best, Gen. Milley’s remarks were a sign of intellectual laziness. At worst, he was being completely disingenuous. Either way…by so recklessly taking a side in our most contested cultural battle, Milley has already put respect for the military at risk,” Hilton added.

Panelist Janelle King, the co-founder of Speak Georgia, pointed out that the U.S. military is the most diverse armed force in the world and that Milley’s outlandish rhetoric seriously detracts from the national security mission.

“I would venture to say when our men and women are standing side-by-side each other looking at our adversaries in the face, I’m pretty sure no one cares what your ethnicity is who is standing beside you, fighting with you…when you’re actually telling our military people there are things that matter more than protecting the country, you’re absolutely forgetting why you’re there and what the whole focus is…which is to protect our country,” King said.

King also suggested that critical race theory is only one component of the left’s attack on traditional values such as freedom, patriotism, and religion.

Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor, agreed with King’s views about Milley. while implying that go-along-to-get-along military officers are the ones who often get promoted up the chain of command.

“Unfortunately, some of these generals that get to this stage, the reason they’re in these roles is largely they’ve just become politicians, and they forget that their number one goal and role is to protect the United States, to make sure we got the biggest, baddest military on the face of the planet…it’s not to teach everybody about how to be so politically correct that we lose sight of the ultimate goal, which is the defense of the United States of America.

“And Gen. Milley, based on those comments that we heard, has lost that vision and has lost the confidence of millions of people,” he added.

Chaffetz became very animated when separately commenting on the track-and-field star who turned her back on the flag when the National Anthem was played at Olympic trials in Oregon.

“If you can’t salute the flag of the United States of America, then have the guts to not represent the United States of America…it is so offensive to the men and women who have given their life to protect this country. Get rid of those people; participate in some other games, but not represent the United States,” Chaffetz declared.

President Trump nominated Gen. Milley for his current position, which required U.S. Senate confirmation. This  appears to be one of Trump’s lackluster hires, which was a recurring issue in his administration. As a newcomer to government, the ex-president understandably had to rely, in part, on some advisers who were less-than-supportive of the MAGA agenda, in making certain personnel decisions. It has often been said that personnel is policy.

Milley probably doesn’t have to worry about job security, however, because the Biden administration is supportive of initiatives like critical race theory. Last week, Biden signed an executive order mandating that the federal government revive the so-called diversity training lessons that Trump had ended.

Separately, Trump has denied an allegation contained in a new book that he and Gen. Milley got into a shouting match about the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act during the summer 2020 riots. “This is totally fake news, it never ever happened. I’m not a fan of Gen. Milley, but I never had an argument with him and the whole thing is false. He never talked back to me…If Gen. Milley had yelled at me, I would have fired him,” Trump told Axios.
