A suspect in Orange, California allegedly shot and killed four people in an office building on Wednesday, including a child, while wounding two others. State Democrats immediately took to the cameras and labeled gun violence as “America’s disease.”
The shooter was reportedly shot and critically injured by police officers. One of the survivors is also in critical condition after the rampage at the Southern California business complex. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment. One firearm was recovered at the scene, according to The Orange County Register.
Governor Gavin Newsom tweeted out: “Horrifying and heartbreaking. Our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight.”
More telling was the response from Rob Bonta, Gavin’s nominee for California attorney general: “Tonight our hearts ache for these victims and all those impacted by this terrible tragedy. Gun violence is America’s disease. No one should have to fear for their lives at work, in school, or in prayer.”

Next in line was State Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva as Democrats began to line up calling for gun control: “I am truly heartbroken for the victims’ families and everyone impacted by this shooting in Orange. We don’t have to live like this. We need #MoreThanThoughtsAndPrayers to stop these preventable tragedies. We must ensure that our communities are safe.” Those words in her tweet echoed Shannon Watts of the gun control groups MomsDemand and Everytown.

California State Senator Tom Umberg (D) also commented on social media that he and his wife Robin are “devastated” over the news of the shooting. “Robin and I are devastated to hear about the shooting in Orange. My staff and I will be monitoring the situation as new information becomes available,” Sen. Umberg stated on Twitter.
“An officer-involved shooting occurred,” the Orange County Police Department posted to Facebook when the shooting took place. Details concerning the incident are scant but more information is expected to be released on Thursday.
Police arrived on the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. after there was a report of gunfire. They found four deceased individuals and a fifth victim, a woman, wounded. The suspect allegedly shot at police responding to the incident and they returned fire according to Lt. Jennifer Amat. The shooter was struck by at least one shot.

There is no word definitively on why the child was at the scene. The tragedy took place on the second floor of the office building and Amat called it “a moving situation.” The 2-story building houses multiple businesses and has a courtyard in the center.
No motive has been determined yet but unconfirmed reports on social media allegedly suggest the shooting happened at a family therapist office where a husband killed his wife and child along with two other people.
Witnesses on social media claim to have watched officers retrieving weapons from one individual who was on the ground motionless. They took a video of police taking away two people in handcuffs. By 7 p.m. the situation was contained.
KABC-TV reported that two bodies were seen outside the building. One body was allegedly on a second-floor walkway and another was in the courtyard. Bloody clothes and a weapon were also reportedly seen.

This is the third mass shooting in three weeks and Democrats are taking full advantage of the tragedies to push for massive gun control. This shooting follows others in Atlanta, Georgia where eight people were killed and another in Boulder, Colorado where ten people lost their lives.

More California Democrats started sending out condolences and began the shift toward calling for gun control:
“Obviously this is something shocking for the city of Orange, for something of this magnitude to happen,” Orange Councilwoman Arianna Barrios noted, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. “Perhaps in this day and age, no community should be unprepared for something like this to happen.”
“I’m deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I’m continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more,” Congresswoman Katie Porter declared in a statement.
“Chrissy and I are thinking of all impacted by tonight’s mass shooting in Orange County,” Congressman Mike Levin intoned. “Another heartbreaking tragedy.”
State Sen. David Min also voiced his sadness: “I am absolutely heartbroken to hear about the mass shooting in North Orange office building in my district. Though the full details have yet to be released, we know there were multiple lives — including a child — taken from this planet too soon.”
Former Congressman Harley Rouda came right out and called for gun control. “Shocked and saddened to hear of another mass shooting, this time at home in Orange County,” Rouda stated. “Kaira and my thoughts are with the victims and their families. These painful weeks have made it clear: we must #EndGunViolence, now.”
California has already been experiencing heavy-handed gun control measures such as a red flag law, registration requirements for firearms, universal background checks as well as 10-day waiting periods on gun purchases and controls on the sale of ammunition. The state has also banned K-12 teachers from being armed to provide defense in classrooms.
The shooting in Orange was the deadliest to occur there since 1997. In the Caltrans shooting, four state transportation employees were murdered in a work yard by a former employee.
