Despite the persistent beating of the impeachment drum by House Democrats, Americans seem largely uninterested in the long, ongoing effort.
A new poll found that even with nearly two-thirds of Congressional Democrats indicating they are in favor of impeaching – or at least launching an impeachment inquiry – of President Trump, only about one-third of Americans agree.
A new Politico-Morning Consult poll showed that 37 percent of AmericansĀ support the beginning of an impeachment inquiry against Trump and half of those polled were againstĀ beginning impeachment proceedings. Another 12 percent of voters were undecided in the issue that has been, it seems, the sole focus of Democrats in recent months as House members continue to conduct endless hearings in hopes of finding something to hold against the president.
Much of the polling data showed a heavy division along party lines withĀ 7 in 10 of those polled being in favor of startingĀ impeachment proceedings. And among the Democratic voters, onlyĀ 18 percent oppose impeachment.
Republicans seem unmoved by the theatrics on the other side of the political divide, withĀ only 6 percent indicating they would support the beginning of proceedings against Trump. Half of the independent voters polled are against the launch of impeachment proceedings while only 31 percent are in favor of Congress beginning an inquiry.
āInitiating impeachment proceedings against President Trump remains a popular move among the Democratic base, but it wonāt necessarily help them win voters across the aisle,ā Tyler Sinclair, Morning Consultās vice president, said.
The ānumbers have marginally changed from July following Robert Muellerās testimony on Capitol Hill, after which 34 percent of independents and 8 percent of Republicans supported impeachment,” he explained.
The poll, conducted Sept. 13-15, surveyed 1,994 registered voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
Democrats continue to forge ahead, however, even though less than 40 percent of voters seem to support impeaching Trump. And their efforts have not even been agreed on within their own ranks, asĀ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to try to quell the calls for impeachment.

The mixed messages from Democrats continued even as theĀ House Judiciary Committee proceeded with an oftentimes fiery hearing Tuesday withĀ former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. The same Judiciary panel last weekĀ formally outlined the procedures for their future investigations of Trump as they returned from their summer recess.
But with polls continuing to contradict the left-wing of the party, Twitter users weighed in on whether Democrats were even getting the message.
