Mexican journo carjacked by armed thug during live shot

A Mexican sports journalist is lucky to be left unscathed after he was carjacked during a live broadcast.

Activo Deportes’ Fernando Vargas was reporting from his vehicle when an armed man appeared at his window, Fox News Digital reported. Vargas had been speaking to host Ed Martinez for the show “Bla, bla, bla Deportivo” when the incident occurred and was later shared on social media.

“The key, quick. Key, phones, and wallets, quick,” the armed thug demanded.

Vargas appeared to remain calm despite the audible sound of a cocking gun and ultimately left the vehicle.

“Thankfully, he’s safe, but very scared,” Martinez later wrote in a post on Instagram. “If anyone recognizes the guy in the video, please help us and report him to the authorities. This happened in Morelos.”

Reaction from X users showed plenty of anger over crime in Mexico.

“Several people had their cell phones stolen as they were leaving a concert. There are thousands of thefts of this kind that, since they don’t involve violence, no one reports them, and no one does anything to make them stop,” X user alejandra said.

“Something very smart that any foreigner planning to attend any World Cup match in Mexico should do is check the security situation that prevails in Mexico,” Fergamo advised:

“It’s dangerous—mainly at night—to stay inside a parked car while waiting for someone, even right in front of your own home, because things like what you see in the video can happen,” according to Marinero de agua dulce.

The armed thug made off with Vargas’ wallet, phone, and other personal belongings and is still on the loose, according to Fox News.
