The day after the third attempted assassination of President Trump, I opened my Facebook page and was not surprised to see leftist cowards express disappointment that the president was unharmed. Prior to unfriending one individual, I decided to scroll down and see his post. I saw the typical unhinged rants that claimed it was the president’s fault, that it was staged, as well as other ridiculous assertions. These are the same low-I.Q. people who celebrated when Charlie Kirk, a father, son, and husband, was gunned down to silence him. These are the same low-I.Q. people who defend rapists and murderers, who condemn violence, except when it is conservatives who are the victims. These are the same low-I.Q. people who believe in Marxist ideas about the violent overthrow of the government and who throw around terms like Nazi and fascist regarding the president and his MAGA supporters.
There are numerous conservatives who despise President Biden, President Obama, and President Clinton, but no one ever took a shot at any of them because, despite how much you dislike someone’s political views, you don’t silence people with bullets; you silence them through debate and fair elections.
It is unconscionable that anyone would root for an assassination, but this illustrates the depth of Trump Derangement Syndrome, which has reached epidemic proportions in America among leftists who cringe at every administration victory. The main carriers of this mental disorder are the media that feed lies to a large portion of the left-leaning public who will ignore allegations against Eric Swalwell and Bill Clinton, but echo the sentiments of a would-be assassin who intimated that Donald Trump is a rapist and a pedophile.
Other carriers are politicians and leftist podcasters who use violent rhetoric in the secret hopes that their message will resonate with someone who is mentally unbalanced and who will take violent actions for what they believe is the good of the country. This is the same irrational group that sympathized and publicly celebrated Luigi Mangione’s gunning down of Brian Thompson, CEO of United Healthcare.
Sympathizing with assassins is a relatively new phenomenon in American society, and the depths of someone’s hatred for those in the political crosshairs is far greater than ever before. Certainly, there have been those who supported criminals and even assassins in history, but they were always in a very small minority because the majority of Americans viewed political violence as unacceptable, regardless of a person’s political affiliation. There were definitely individuals who despised President Kennedy, but the majority of the nation mourned his death, and a minute number of individuals openly celebrated this tragic event.
Throughout history, the mentally unhinged have been responsible for taking the lives of presidents and people in powerful positions; however, unlike today, few people defended or supported the assassins. Anarchist, Leon Czolgosz, who gunned down President McKinley, made the following statement before he was executed, “I killed the President because he was the enemy of the good people – the good working people. I am not sorry for my crime.”
Charles Julius Guiteau, who shot and killed President Garfield, attempted to claim insanity as a defense (and if you read transcripts of the things he claimed, he was definitely insane) for his actions actually wrote a poem titled: My Case, which attempted to justify his actions:
My Case.
Today, before [struck: I] my God
I stand,
A patriot and a Christian man;
Condemned by men to die;
For Obeying God’s Command. “
Ye murdered Garfield,
And ye must die”.
‘Twas God’s will,
Not mine,
That he should die.
Thirty-eight cases,
In the Bible
Can be found,
Where the Almighty
Has directed
[struck: The] The Removal
Of Rulers, who were going wrong.
I executed,
The Divine Command
And Garfield did remove,
To save my party,
And my country
These are not exactly the words of someone existing in the real world, nor a very eloquent poet. I’ve read several accounts from pathologists that Guiteau’s brain may have indeed been affected by cerebral syphilis (paresis) or chronic malaria. There was no social media at this time, but it’s doubtful that a large portion of the general public would have gone online to support what Guiteau had done if social media had existed in the 19th century.
Cole Allen, the man calling himself the “Friendly Federal Assassin” and a man who won a California teacher of the month award, was arrested while attempting to shoot President Trump and his cabinet members last weekend also made assertions regarding his reasons for doing what he did, “I’m not a schoolkid blown up, or a child starved, or a teenage girl abused by the many criminals in this administration. Turning the other cheek when *someone else* is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes.” He also wrote, “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”
Thankfully, Allen (unlike Guiteau and Czolgosz) was unsuccessful in his attempt to kill the president of the United States. In all three cases, note how each of these men sees themselves as avenging angels to rid the nation of men they deemed dangerous to the country. The area where the three men differ is that in the case of Guiteau and Czolgosz, no one came to their defense or made excuses for what they did. As a matter of fact, it was difficult for Guiteau (a failed lawyer) to find an attorney to defend him, and he ended up with his brother-in-law as his defense attorney because it was believed that no reputable lawyer would defend a man who murdered the president. Public opinion, at that time, wanted Guiteau punished, and there was a lottery among 20,000 people to see him die.
The climate for presidential assassins in the 19th and early 20th century was neither friendly nor forgiving. So what has changed to a point where detractors of President Trump boldly proclaim disappointment that the assassination attempt failed? Is it social media where keyboard warriors can safely celebrate the murders or attempted murders of people they dislike because it is their exercise of free speech that is protected, and they know it? It is a collective polarization that is fed by propaganda, false narratives, and agenda-driven news that influences people to inspire the kind of hatred that would make someone root for assassination, the way they would root for a favored sports team? It’s time that Americans do some serious soul searching and understand that rational people don’t advocate or celebrate political assassination because you don’t like someone’s politics, and realize that regime change through acts of violence is what happens in third-world nations, not civilized countries.
