Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are words that most people would say are positive. Diversity is the opportunity to have a broad representation of many kinds of individuals. Equity, a word associated with fairness and equality, provides a situation where everyone is treated equally. Inclusion, the opposite of exclusion, is a warm and fuzzy word that should mean “everyone is welcome to join.”
However, diversity became the idea that only people from select groups would be allowed to join or be hired, resulting in an inequitable and exclusionary situation, which is the opposite of how these words are actually defined. This is the game played by liberals who have a fascination for adjusting language and ignoring the hypocrisy of policies that claim to be democratic, but end up being closer to fascism.
Such illogical contradictions have led many people to wonder if leftists exist in the Bizarro world where up is down, and down is up. One needs only to look at positions many leftists support: criminals’ rights over victims’ rights, illegals’ rights over citizens’ rights, support for women’s rights, yet allowing biological men to compete against biological women, which hurts women, just to name a few issues where rampant hypocrisy is displayed front and center on the national stage.
In recent speeches, leading democratic presidential candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has given her twisted take on history with claims that the American Revolution was fought against billionaires, when it was actually the wealthiest white men of the eighteenth century who put their fortunes at risk to fight for the independence of America. Her myopic, revisionist, and misinformed view of history is not surprising because this is what woke leftists do when they are trying to sell the public their vision of a socialist agenda.
The list of hypocritical positions taken by leftists is a very long one and one recent hypocritical position is democrats who have used the “Nazi” label to describe President Trump, but who now support a man who praised Hamas and proudly displayed a Nazi tattoo on his chest. Graham Platner is the democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine. Democrats have made a multitude of excuses (including rationalizations by Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer and others) and endorsed Platner’s senate candidacy. They claim that what Platner did and said in the past is due to “a dark time in his life,” and people need to forget his past and focus on the present and future. Would they be this forgiving if a republican said anti-Semitic things and had a Nazi tattoo?
Leftists claim they are very concerned with free speech, however, the caveat here is that they are only in favor of speech that they find to be agreeable speech. This was highlighted when the Biden Administration attempted to create a Disinformation Board, which was made up of woke leftists with the intent of silencing conservatives. How many conservative speakers have been denied access on college campuses? It is a phenomenon that may appear irrational, but this is all part of the Marxist playbook.
Herbert Marcuse, a Neo-Marxist economist, wrote an essay titled: Repressive Tolerance in 1965. The major premise of repressive tolerance is that tolerance needs to be intolerant! Marcuse stated that repressive tolerance is a way of shifting the balance between Right and Left by “restraining the liberty of the Right.” In other words, it uses censorship to squash dissenting ideas to achieve the end goal, which is to create a communist society where only the communist view is tolerated.
In his essay, Marcuse pointed out that people in the West weren’t made miserable enough to revolt against the oppressive capitalist system, so the Marxian revolution outlined by Marx, which would lead to the violent overthrow of the government, never happened.
The comfort of the people in a capitalist society was seen as a bad thing because it led to public inaction. In the Communist Manifesto, Marx saw the workers’ overthrow of the government and taking over of the means of production as a good thing, however, when this didn’t happen, Neo-Marxists turned their attention to psychology, education and away from taking over the physical means of production. Instead of the “lowly workers” (as Marx had envisioned) revolting, students, academics and intellectuals would be the new leaders of the new communist revolution and their weapons would be political correctness, DEI, politicizing psychology and taking control of all educational institutions. The shift in the battle between capitalism and communism went from taking over the means of production to taking over the way people speak and think.
Zohran Mamdani’s Administration is a perfect example of repressive tolerance. He alienated numerous businesses and drove them out of New York City. He threatened to increase taxes (pain) on New Yorkers who are unable to leave, which created anxiety (pain). He blamed the “rich” business owners (or in Bernie Sanders language, “the oligarchs”) for not wanting to “pay their fair share,” and made speeches that denied his own culpability and shifted the blame to the business owners, MAGA and anyone who refused to align with his visions of Marxist New York.
Emergency Politics is another aspect of the Marxist playbook that is intertwined with repressive tolerance. It occurs when political actions depart from traditional democratic freedoms and one side attempts to censor divergent opinions because of a higher purpose. It’s the equivalent of telling someone that even though the medicine tastes bad, they need to endure the bad taste because the end result is curing the illness; in their view, capitalism is the illness.
Is it any wonder why those on the left would want open borders where illegals receive benefits that American taxpayers can’t obtain? Is it any wonder why leftist judges and prosecutors allow criminal predators onto the streets to murder and rape innocent citizens? Is it any wonder why cities run by leftist politicians are filled with homeless people, crime and when tragedies occur (like the California fires or areas devastated by natural disasters) people are left to suffer? The answer to all of these questions is simple: create enough suffering and people will demand or even vote for a change. A strategy that either makes people feel pain or creates the illusion of pain and appeals to individuals with a victim mentality.
It is important that voters are aware of this twisted game, the hypocrisy, the contradictions, and the bizarre nature of repressive tolerance to avoid being manipulated by leftist politicians who seek power over the masses. Does anyone believe the elites in the Soviet Union under Stalin had the same lifestyle as the average citizen?
Those who are easily manipulated or convinced that their perceived pain is the result of capitalism, because it’s easier to blame the system than to blame yourself, are the targets of leftists like Mamdani and AOC. This plan is methodical and the intention is justified by the end justifying the means or as Marx put it: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”
