Gay country songwriter Shane McAnally posted a troubling video on social media that drew a harsh response from many who saw it.
McAnally is married to Michael Baum and the pair welcomed their third child, Texson Ray McAnally Baum, who was born via surrogate on Oct. 26, 2025. In a video shared on Instagram, McAnally can be seen asking the infant who he prefers, “Dada or Pop?”
Texson responds with what sounds like “Mama,” prompting the proud dad to say, “No mama. You want Dada or Pop?”
The video was shared on X by Right Angle News Network, along with the description, “Two gay men in Nashville are sparking nationwide outrage after recording a video of themselves mocking the baby they had via surrogacy as it cries for its mother for content.”

There is laughter off camera, presumed to be Baum, as McAnally persists, “Who do you want, Dada or Pop?”
Again, the child seems to say Mama,” with the songwriter who has written and/or produced more than 50 No. 1 country songs pushing back, “No way, Jose!”
Texson soon begins to cry, right after McAnally states, “There is no mama.”
Sadly, the indoctrination session continues, despite the child seemingly growing frustrated with McAnally’s antics.
As for the name, McAnally told People, “‘Texson’ is about me being a Texan and he is the son of a Texan, so that’s why it’s spelled the way it is.”
The baby’s middle name is the maiden name of McAnally’s grandmother.
