Dramatic video captures hero cop rescuing woman and her kids from burning home

A Tennessee police officer is being hailed a hero after rushing into a burning apartment and helping rescue a mother and her two children.

Chattanooga Police Officer Eli Rogers responded to a residential fire just before 10 p.m. on May 1, and flames were visible near the front door when he arrived.

A Ring doorbell camera captured the dramatic rescue effort, as Rogers helped Rachel Blaylock and her two children, 4-year-old Marlowe and 10-year-old Charles, escape the flames. The officer is seen carrying Marlowe out of the apartment after getting the front door open. Blaylock quickly followed with her older child.

Blaylock told ABC News Channel 9 she was struggling with how she could get both children out safely on her own before Rogers arrived.

“I keep thinking back, how was I going to get two kids down the stairs?” Blaylock said. “He just grabs her, and he was willing to go back in.”

The Chattanooga Police Department released Rogers’ breathtaking bodycam footage, along with the following statement: “Police are not trained in firefighting, but they do take an oath to serve and protect. And that is exactly what Ofc. Rogers did when he was first on the scene at a recent residential fire with flames visible by the front door. After neighbors informed Officer Rogers that people were still inside, he immediately jumped into action, rescuing two children and their mother. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

“Thank you Officer Rogers for your bravery and dedication to serving our community. CPD is proud to have exemplary officers like you.”
