Girl Scout troop sparks controversy, sets up shop outside popular pot dispensary

As the saying goes… It’s all about location, location, location.

A New Jersey Girl Scout troop found success when it partnered with Daylite Dispensary to sell cookies outside the popular pot shop after an attempt to do so in 2024 was rejected by the Girl Scout state council.

Fast forward to 2025, and the troop was given the greenlight on a trial basis.

“You use cannabis, you get the munchies,” Dispensary owner Steve Cassidy told NJ.com. “There’s a connection between snacks and cannabis, and the fact that we don’t have to pretend that doesn’t exist anymore is really awesome.”

“I don’t think five years ago we would’ve seen anything like this,” Cassidy said. “I hope that it’s a sign of things to come, where there’s more of this normalcy of shared opportunities.”

“This is a commonality in which a local business can help a local organization in a really cool way that’s so incredibly unique,” Cassidy said.

The troop’s first stint at the dispensary was on Feb 20 and apparently went well (no surprise) as they’re expected to return this week.

Recreational marijuana use was legalized in New Jersey in 2022, and the state currently has more than 200 recreational-only dispensaries.

The troop did not respond to NJ.com for comment, but X users had plenty of them:

Apparently, they weren’t the first either:

But, not everyone was entirely on board:
