Lara Trump isn’t having it when Bill Maher argues Trump treated same as past presidents

Daily Caller News Foundation

Fox News host Lara Trump pushed back on comedian Bill Maher when he argued on his Monday “Club Random” podcast that her family was treated analogously to previous presidents’ families.

Lara Trump’s husband, Eric, published a book released in October, titled “Under Siege: My Family’s Fight to Save Our Nation,” which recounts the tribulations his family has experienced since his father, President Donald Trump, entered politics. When Lara Trump asserted on Maher’s podcast that their family has faced unprecedented scrutiny and attacks, the comedian claimed that it was natural due to her father-in-law being president.

“[I]t’s not just that he’s the president, it’s that he’s Donald Trump as the president,” Trump retorted. “I mean, they’ve gone after all of us in such an aggressive way.”

“They didn’t go after [Barack] Obama and [Bill] Clinton in an aggressive way?” Maher asked.

Trump responded that what her family underwent was markedly different.

“Oh, please,” Maher said.

“Really? When did you see Obama and Clinton’s residences, personal private property, raided by the FBI?” Trump asked. “When did they have indictments against them to put them in jail for the rest of their life that everybody can agree were a little outrageous, Bill? Like, really?”

Donald Trump accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Sept. 3, 2022, of searching former first lady Melania Trump’s closet and drawers and their son Barron’s room during the Aug. 8, 2022, raid for classified documents. Moreover, the president faced unprecedented criminal indictments during his 2024 campaign.

Lara Trump’s husband also refuted “The Daily T” host Tim Stanley on Nov. 6 when he suggested that the attacks on his family were typical in politics. Her husband rattled off examples that he argued were out of bounds, including the raid, indictments, subpoenas he and his siblings faced, alleged debanking, and the now-discredited Steele dossier, which former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign funded.
