John Kerry: A Democrat win would allow us to ‘change’ the First Amendment to stop ‘disinformation’

Former Secretary of State John Kerry said the quiet part out loud as he lamented the limitations of America’s pesky First Amendment.

President Joe Biden’s former U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate called the nation’s beloved Constitutional right a “major block” in the battle against misinformation and climate change during remarks at a World Economic Forum panel.

“You know there’s a lot of discussion now about how you curb those entities in order to guarantee that you’re going to have some accountability on facts, etc.,” the Democrat said in response to an audience member question during the Green Energy panel about combating climate change misinformation.

“But look, if people only go to one source, and the source they go to is sick, and, you know, has an agenda, and they’re putting out disinformation, our First Amendment stands as a major block to be able to just, you know, hammer it out of existence,” Kerry said.

“So what we need is to win the ground, win the right to govern, by hopefully winning enough votes that you’re free to be able to implement change,” he continued.

The “problem,” according to the diplomat, is something only democracies have to deal with. Imagine that.

“The dislike of and anguish over social media is just growing and growing. It is part of our problem, particularly in democracies, in terms of building consensus around any issue,” Kerry said.

“It’s really hard to govern today. The referees we used to have to determine what is a fact and what isn’t a fact have kind of been eviscerated, to a certain degree. And people go and self-select where they go for their news, for their information. And then you get into a vicious cycle,” he added.

“Democracies around the world now are struggling with the absence of a sort of truth arbiter, and there’s no one who defines what facts really are,” he also commented at the WEF. “If we could strip away some of the fearmongering that’s taking place and get down to the realities of what’s here for people, this is the biggest economic opportunity.”

Of course, the November election is seen as a pivotal moment that can “break the fever” in the nation, according to Kerry.

“I think democracies are very challenged right now and have not proven they can move fast enough or big enough to deal with the challenges they are facing, and to me, that is part of what this election is all about,” he said. “Will we break the fever in the United States?”

Kerry’s not the only Democrat raising the alarm about democracy as his fellow leftists have openly been calling for what amounts to tyranny. Just last month, Hillary Clinton – who repeatedly bashes former President Donald Trump as a threat to the nation – called for anyone spreading Russian disinformation to be arrested.

“It’s important to indict the Russians, just as [Robert] Mueller indicted a lot of Russians who were engaged in direct election interference and boosting Trump back in 2016,” the failed presidential nominee told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “But I also think there are Americans who are engaged in this kind of propaganda, and whether they should be civilly, or even in some cases criminally charged is something that would be a better deterrence, because the Russians are unlikely, except in a very few cases, to ever stand trial in the United States.”

Meanwhile, Kerry’s remarks earned the criticism of Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, and others on social media.

Musk, wrote that “John Kerry is saying he wants to violate the Constitution,” while RFK Jr, added on X, “John Kerry is correct. The 1st Amendment DOES stand as a major roadblock to them right now.”

“I don’t know how @JohnKerry can say such things without bursting into flames,” Dr. Jordan Peterson wrote.
