Singer Katy Perry has received major backlash after posting a since-deleted picture of herself on Instagram casting her vote for Los Angeles mayoral hopeful, billionaire Rick Caruso, and she is far from alone in supporting the political newcomer.
The picture surfaced just a few hours after she tweeted out a video in support of abortion rights and Roe vs. Wade. Some of her fans were incensed because Caruso has allegedly donated to anti-abortion organizations and politicians in the past, according to PinkNews.
“I am voting for a myriad of reasons but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess atm,” she wrote on social media.
In May, she stated during an interview, “I’m like, living in Kentucky and I have for almost a month now. And that’s quite an amazing experience. Because it reminds you that Hollywood is not America.”
It looks like Perry took some of that sentiment back to Los Angeles with her.

Caruso is a billionaire and a devout Catholic. He used to be a Republican and then switched his voter registration from Independent to Democrat in January of this year just before announcing he would be running for mayor of Los Angeles. He is running against US Representative Karen Bass.
He is a real estate developer who previously served as commissioner of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power under Mayor Tom Bradley in 1985. The mayoral candidate has also served as president of the LA Board of Police Commissioners.
Perry is joined by the likes of actor Chris Pratt who has thrown his support behind Caruso as well. He also announced his support of Caruso on Instagram.
Anyone still living under the delusion that there’s such a thing as a “moderate” Democrat, please look what panicked Wokesters are doing to Rick Caruso, a pro-choice Dem who is endorsed by Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, & Snoop Dog, all because he’s a rich white male & former GOPer! https://t.co/TEGiSQjDfz

“I’ve lived in LA for over 20 years. It’s been great to me,” Pratt wrote on Sunday. “In that time I’ve seen what many residents here have seen, the city’s gradual decline into pain and utter disarray. If you live here, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t normally support political candidates. But in this election, there’s too much to lose.”
“If you’re an LA voter, I urge you to vote for @rickcarusola. He’s a builder. He knows how to get s*** done. He’s the guy for our city. Rick Caruso for LA mayor,” he added.
Also standing behind Caruso are rapper Snoop Dogg, reality star Kim Kardashian, and Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow, not to mention Twitter CEO Elon Musk.
It is rare for me to endorse political candidates.
My political leanings are moderate, so neither fully Republican nor Democrat, which I am confident is the case for most Americans.
Executive competence is super underrated in politics – we should care about that a lot more!

Snoop Dogg is steadfast in his endorsement of Caruso, stating during a news clip earlier this year, “I endorse the real, and that is real.”
Exclusive: @SnoopDogg endorses @RickCarusoLA for L.A. Mayor.
"I endorse the real and that is real!"
During a Zoom call, Snoop told me he's impressed Caruso has worked with activists like "Sweet Alice" Harris in Watts for 40 years.

Paltrow has strongly praised Caruso, asserting that he is a “man of integrity and great character” who has “the strength to solve some really tough problems.”
Thank you @gwynethpaltrow for your powerful words and endorsement. I won’t let this city down. #CarusoCan pic.twitter.com/OnvzsveHgw

Bass also has her fair share of support from Tinsel Town.
Celebrities who have endorsed her include filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Grammy award-winning singer John Legend, “Machete” actor Danny Trejo, and former President Barack Obama.
I'm humbled and honored to have the support of President @BarackObama because he understands the gravity of the crises in Los Angeles.
We must bring unhoused Angelenos inside immediately and make this city safer and more affordable for all.

Caruso has spared no expense in attempting to get elected. According to Newsweek, he has dumped $80 million of his own fortune into the race. Bass, meanwhile, has raised around $6 million as of September.
Fans did not cut Perry a break even though she is among a number of celebrities supporting Caruso. She was thrashed on social media by rabid leftists for voting for him:
katy perry turning off ig comments after telling everyone to vote for rick caruso…girl this is why taylor is beating you in the culture wars

I love all the horrible LA celebrities (Chris Pratt, Katy Perry, etc.) making pro-Caruso posts that are like The City Is Falling Apart and all they mean is that they have to occasionally see unhoused people from their limos, that's it

katy perry tweeting out a pro-choice video while voting for rick caruso would be objectively hilarious if it wasn’t painfully dumb. https://t.co/n6JehiZqpa

Also, Katy Perry, way to tell everyone you voted with your tax bracket, and not the politics you claim to represent.
Rick Caruso is still a Republican. He changed his party JUST to win this seat, but he can't change who he is.

I don’t trust a damn thing about voting that comes from your mouth. You voted for Caruso, who would happily strip your rights from you.

just want to alert those of journo twitter impressed that katy perry got nostalgic over newspapers today that she supports rick caruso—LA's worst candidate for mayor—and has been liking elon's tweets so let's not get it twisted here
— esther tseng 鄭怜欣 (@estarLA) November 3, 2022
As much as the right try to spin it, Katy Perry voting for Rick Caruso is not an indication of anything other than a rich white woman voting for a fake democrat who will ultimately have no effect on the quality of her life but will worsen the lives of many others.
— Travon (@Travon) November 8, 2022
You literally voted for an anti-abortion billionaire to be mayor of Los Angeles. The Caruso center at USC literally is against prop 1 and wants to make abortions illegal. You’re a fucking fraud, we all see your far-right politics.
