Entertainer Katy Perry happened upon the reality that coastal elites and social media censors have been striving to ignore for years when she moved out of her “bubble” and discovered “Hollywood is not America.”
The 37-year-old singer, known for her panelist role on “American Idol,” explained her epiphany when she joined leftist comedian Chelsea Handler for the premiere of the third season of her podcast, “Life Will Be the Death of Me.”
During the conversation, Perry talked about her and fiancé Orlando Bloom’s daughter, Daisy, and addressed the decision that led her to Kentucky.
Amidst a more typically disconnected dialogue that covered drug use and relationships, Perry zeroed in on the culture shock she received after living in Kentucky for less than a month.
“I’m like, living in Kentucky,” Perry told Handler, “and I have for almost a month now. And that’s quite an amazing experience. Because it reminds you that Hollywood is not America.”
As stunning an admission as that is, the singer didn’t just stop there and move on. She followed up the remark by emphasizing the value of accepting that reality, “You need to remember that. Because I think you can understand people better.”
Handler seemed more receptive to the first part of Perry’s remark than the latter as she seemed to push back, “Yeah, right. It’s nice to get outside of what you know to be normal and your reality.” The implication from the comedian is that fly-over country isn’t actually reality, just a kind of reality that some people have chosen.
Perry didn’t let up though.
“Yeah, I mean they’re living in a bubble of sorts. We’re living in a bubble. Our bubbles are completely opposite,” she added. “But they’re – it’s interesting.”
Going on to discuss how having her daughter was the “best decision [she’s] ever made in [her] entire life,” it’s worth noting that she hasn’t fled from the culturally opposite bubble of Kentucky back to Hollywood. Instead, she sees the benefit, if only through a skewed lens, in the traditional setting of Americana to raise her child.
The host known for debasing herself over her “white privilege” and decrying men for the perceived advantages they’ve had, was reticent on the possibility of being even tangentially red-pilled and attempted to defend Hollywood culture by painting typical conservative values as polarizing.
“You’ve been in different bubbles cause you grew up in a bubble,” Handler pressed. “You grew up super religious, yeah, and that’s one bubble. Then you came into this industry, that’s another bubble. Right?” she asked, seeking Perry’s support for her argument that only further highlighted the fact that Hollywood, according to the left, is a secular realm and should remain as such while the entertainment it produces continues to influence society.
Perry did not authentically accede to that argument and instead offered, “It’s an anthropology study of humans.”
