Gretchen Whitmer dragged over convenient audio malfunction when asked about lockdown regrets

Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer evidently had an audio malfunction at just the right time, enabling her to avoid answering questions about her thuggish COVID lockdown measures while getting dragged for it by her Republican challenger.

Whitmer’s GOP opponent, Tudor Dixon, had severe doubts about the authenticity of the purported audio problem.

“We hope Gretchen Whitmer can get back on air to answer this question about her disastrous COVID policies (or will the equipment mysteriously malfunction again?):” Dixon tweeted, playing the clip.

“Governor, when it comes to your handling of the pandemic, we all know the critics over the past few years, do you have any regrets and…?” FOX 2 Detroit anchor Josh Landon asked the governor Monday morning.

Whitmer launched into actress mode and responded, “I’m sorry…” and then clutched at her earpiece. It sounded like someone off-camera said, “Oh, s***, I think we lost…”

“Go ahead, governor,” Ladon prodded her to respond.

Whitmer glanced at the camera and down again holding on to her earpiece.

“Did I do that when I touched the ear thing? It started to fall out,” she stated.

“Oh no, it’s OK,” someone off-camera tells Whitmer.

Landon then asked Whitmer, “Governor, can you hear me? Governor Whitmer?”

She just stared blankly into the camera. Producers then panned away from it.

“Alright, we’ll check back in with the governor maybe a little bit later on this morning,” Landon said.

“Yeah, seems like she’s having some audio problems there,” co-anchor of FOX 2 News Morning Amy Andrews noted.

But Whitmer never did come back on and certainly never answered the question.

According to Cook Political Report which was released on Oct. 28, the Michigan governor’s race “leans Democrat.” But RealClearPolitics has it as a toss-up with Tudor taking the race. All of Michigan wants to see the results of the gubernatorial contest and it is tight.

Whitmer has been hammered by conservatives for her heavy-handed pandemic response and lockdown measures.

She was hit with a number of lawsuits over her pandemic restrictions in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdowns and faced a fierce backlash from Republicans who urged her to reopen the state, which she balked at.

Dixon has made the Democrat’s COVID restrictions the focal point of her gubernatorial campaign and it has taken its toll against Whitmer as Michiganders have not forgotten what the governor did when they needed her most. Especially when it comes to their kids.

She also didn’t help herself by referring to women as “people with a period” during a brief address on TikTok Monday.

Whitmer made the statement while discussing menstrual products. Democrats in Washington and across the country have come under fire for refusing to refer to women as actual women, often creating complicated definitions to include transgender people and a number of other strange, confused individuals.

“A bipartisan tax cut will help reduce the economic burden of the cost of menstrual products, especially for lower-income Michiganders,” Whitmer states in the clip. “Saving people with a period from paying taxes on up to $4,800 in spending over the course of their lifetime.”
