Senator Rand Paul’s wife, Kelley, once again scolded CNN anchor Kasie Hunt on Sunday over a tasteless comment she let slip in 2017, asserting that the brutal assault on the Kentucky Republican “might be one of my favorite stories.”
“I was caring for Rand as he struggled to breathe in terrible pain as you called his attack and injuries ‘one of my favorite stories’ on air. Yet you still have a job,” Kelley Paul tweeted on Sunday.
“New details today on the incident that left Senator Rand Paul with six broken ribs – this might be one of my favorite stories,” Hunt gleefully reported at the time.
Hunt, who is now a talking head on CNN but was with MSNBC at the time of the assault, covered the attack on Paul by his unhinged leftist neighbor that left him with broken ribs, teeth, and damaged lungs. It took the senator a long time to recover after surgery and even longer to see justice in his case.
I do too, @kasie. I was caring for Rand as he struggled to breathe in terrible pain as you called his attack and injuries “one of my favorite stories” on air. Yet you still have a job. https://t.co/t6KOlIQIAQ

Hunt evidently realized after the comment that she was condoning violence against Republicans. Many contend she let her true feelings slip when she made the inciteful remark. She attempted to downplay what she had just said and botched the cleanup by stating, “Although, of course, we don’t… clearly Senator Paul still struggling.”
She would later take to Twitter to apologize, stating “there is nothing funny about 6 broken ribs.”
“My apologies to @RandPauI for suggesting on air earlier today there was. Hope your recovery is on the right track, senator, looking forward to seeing you in the hallways soon,” Hunt lamely wrote in an apology that pretty much no one took seriously.

Five years after the vicious attack, the memory of it was brought back to light in connection to the violent hammer attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband.
“I remember when @RandPaul was viciously attacked and an MSNBC anchor accidentally let her true feelings come out,” Jason Howerton tweeted, sending out the video. “Lesson: Do not let these people lecture you and gaslight you.”
Kelley Paul quote-tweeted Howerton in remembrance of Hunt’s commentary.
Hunt is not the only leftist to attack Paul, insinuating that he had it coming. In fact, it’s still happening.
Last week, Sen. Paul called for Iowa Democratic Senate nominee Mike Franken to be disqualified for his tweet in 2021 mocking the 2017 attack on him. Franken proposed that Paul’s neighbor, Rene Boucher, had been “more than a little in the right” for attacking Paul, according to The Hill.

“Disgusting that Mike Franken would celebrate an assault (from behind) that resulted in 6 broken ribs, a damaged lung that had to be removed, and chronic pain,” Paul responded via Twitter. “Advocacy for violence should disqualify Franken from holding ANY office.”

Franken shot back, “I spent 40 years defending this country from complete assholes. I’m not done just because I retired from the Navy. And I’m not going to be lectured to by an insurrectionist.”
The Paul family has been a target of leftists for a long time. Kelley Paul is not a weak woman and defends her family vigorously.
In 2021, she hit back at the lack of accountability by those who have threatened her family, according to Fox News. She recounted the times they have been accosted, pointing out that authorities have taken no action against the culprits.
One involved a “Republican-hating woman” who called the senator’s DC office, threatening to shoot his entire staff. The woman will not be charged for it.
So sick of these vile hypocrites! https://t.co/TqQmrql8V8

Then there was the time that the Pauls were surrounded and attacked by a mob when they were returning to their hotel after former President Trump’s 2020 Republican National Convention acceptance speech at the White House. One man was charged with assaulting a police officer near Paul at the time but that charge was dropped as well.
Kelley Paul also pointed out that no one was charged for sending fake anthrax and death threats to their home either.
“I’m exhausted and angry,” she stated.
