‘Do not bear false witness!’ Debate heats up when Herschel Walker rips Warnock over eviction scandal

The much-anticipated debate between Georgia’s Herschel Walker (R) and Senator Raphael Warnock (D) took place on Friday night with Walker calling out Warnock over an eviction scandal, admonishing him not to lie about it.

In one of the most explosive exchanges during the debate, Warnock denied that his church was evicting tenants from an apartment building it owns onto the street who were late or short on the rent. It should be noted that Warnock is a pastor with the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Eight residents at Colombia Tower have been given eviction notices since 2020 for owing an average of $125 in rent. Some owed a lot less than that and were threatened with being kicked out over it. Meanwhile, the church gives Warnock a $7,417 monthly housing stipend.

“He won’t answer that about evicting the people from the church,” Walker accused Warnock during the debate.

Warnock clapped back, saying, “We have not evicted those people.”

“He’s now telling you ‘I didn’t evict anyone.’ It is written in the paper! Senator, you did! It’s okay to speak the truth. Do not bear false witness!” Walker warned the pastor.

Warnock called Walker desperate for daring to bring the subject up.

“Anytime a candidate would stoop to the level of trying to sully the name… of Martin Luther King Junior’s church and John Lewis’ church, you know, that’s a desperate candidate,” Warnock asserted. It’s also a church that former President Barack Obama visited.

Many other issues were addressed in the wide-ranging debate, including inflation which is the top issue for Georgia voters coming in at 25 percent, according to Fox News.

“[Walker] said he would not have voted for the Inflation Reduction Act and I think he should tell the people of Georgia why he thinks they should have expensive insulin and why the pharmaceutical companies should be able to charge us whatever they like,” Warnock railed.

“I believe in reducing insulin, but at the same time, you’ve got to eat, right?” Walker responded. “You have to get food prices down and you’ve got to get gas down, so they can go get insulin.”

At one point in the debate, Warnock attempted to hit Walker over the accusation that he pretended to be a police officer. Walker pulled out a prop badge which was evidently against the rules and got called on it. It was meant to emphasize that he was an honorary deputy with law enforcement.

“One thing I have not done, I’ve never pretended to be a police officer and I’ve never threatened a shootout with the police,” Warnock stated.

When abortion came up along with his son’s accusations that he paid to have a girlfriend’s pregnancy terminated, Walker once again called the claim a “lie” and that he would be “a Senator that protects life.”

When Warnock was quizzed on abortion, he expertly deflected, stating, “A patient’s room is too narrow and small, cramped, a space for a woman, her doctor, and the United States government.”

When asked about the 2024 presidential election, the two men’s answers were starkly different.

“I have not spent a minute thinking about what politicians should run for what in 2024… The people of Georgia hired me to represent them regardless of who’s in the White House,” Warnock answered, avoiding the issue of whether he would support President Biden or not.

Walker unflinchingly threw his support behind former President Trump.

Currently, Fox News is reporting that Warnock is still leading Walker, 46 percent to 41 percent.

Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer said after the debate, “Herschel Walker is a fighter, and soon, he will fight to right the wrongs of Warnock and Biden’s Democrat Party in the United States Senate.”

The campaign manager for Warnock, Quentin Fulks, released a statement after the debate stating that it’s clear the Senator won and that “Herschel Walker offered no solutions, lied, and proved once again that he isn’t ready to represent Georgians.”

If social media is any indication, people seem to think it was Warnock who lied during the debate:
