Multiple Secret Service officers were hospitalized for “precautionary evaluation” after they were exposed to an unknown “powdery substance” outside Vice President Kamala Harris’ office Tuesday morning during a traffic stop.
The incident took place outside the Eisenhower Office building, located a block from the White House’s West Wing.
The officers were taken to the hospital for evaluation and a suspect was taken into custody during the altercation.
“Shortly before 11 am, Secret Service Uniformed Division officers made a traffic stop in the 1700 Blk of New York Avenue,” the Secret Service told the Daily Mail in a statement. “During the stop, officers came in contact with a powdery substance believed to be suspected narcotics. One individual was taken into custody and officers were transported to an area hospital for precautionary evaluation.”

During the traffic stop, officers came into contact with what Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi described to Fox News as a “powdery substance believed to be suspected narcotics.”
Asked for additional details, Guglielmi said two officers were taken to the hospital after they were exposed to a suspected horse tranquilizer. They had detained a person with an extradition warrant when they came into contact with the white powder, he reported according to NBC News.
This took place the same day that a section of the Rayburn House Office building, which is next door to the US Capitol building, was locked down after a suspicious package was found in the office of Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) who chairs the Jan. 6 committee. The panel is preparing for a public hearing on Thursday after weeks of silence.
The language in the letter sent to Thompson was not disclosed but it was evidently alarming to authorities.

That package was determined by police to have nothing harmful in it but the language was deemed threatening by police. Thompson’s office was reopened after it was determined there was no real threat to the congressman.
The whole incident is very short on details and police, as well as Thompson and others, are reportedly keeping it under wraps as it is investigated, deliberately being vague.

“This afternoon Congressional staff inside the Rayburn House Office Building reported that they received a letter with concerning language. We just screened it and determined it not to have anything dangerous inside. Powder was not found inside,” US Capitol Police said in a statement.
“Our investigators take all concerning statements and threats seriously. They are now working to determine who sent the letter and why,” they added, indicating it is an ongoing investigation.

Thompson sent out a message via Twitter that all his staffers were safe and sound after the package was received.
“A suspicious package was delivered to my office in D.C. and it is under investigation. All the staffers in my office are safe. We will continue to monitor the issue and update you all with more information. Thank you,” he tweeted.
