Fauci admits lockdowns were ‘Draconian’ on purpose, stirs renewed GOP vow to investigate

Fox News’ quintet on “The Five” tore into Dr. Anthony Fauci on Wednesday after he brazenly admitted that he knew the “draconian” COVID policies he pushed for would lead to “collateral negative consequences” for the “economy” and “schoolchildren.”

Co-host Greg Gutfeld opened up by noting, “For the first time since the pandemic began, Dr. Fauci is finally speaking the truth… allegedly.”

“When you are dealing with a situation where the hospitals were being overrun in New York, intensive care units were being put in hallways… you have to do something that’s rather draconian. And sometimes when you do draconian things it does have deleterious consequences on the economy, on the schoolchildren… you know that. But you have to make a balance when you’re dealing with — we know the only way to stop something cold in its track is to try and shut things down,” Fauci asserted.

“If you shut things down just for the sake of it, that’s bad,” he said, adding, “But if you do it with the purpose of being able to regroup so that you can then open up in a more safe way, that’s the best way to do it.”

“Mmmm… there he goes smearing the Draconians again,” Gutfeld quipped. “How racist. Anyway, thanks to Fauci and teachers’ unions those school closures erased two decades of students’ progress in math and reading.”

Co-host Dana Perino would go on to say that Fauci really should stop doing so many public interviews, evidently alluding to the fact that he’s just digging a deeper hole for himself in the public venue over the pandemic.

She pointed out that “everyone at the beginning signed off on the lockdowns… even reluctantly.” But then leaders went far beyond their jurisdiction and went overboard on restrictions. Perino also brought up random determinations that were not equally applied to businesses.

Gutfeld asserted that once things were locked down, they didn’t want to undo them in case something bad happened because they would be blamed. He charged they were basically in cover-their-ass mode.

Co-host Jeanine Pirro said that she’s tired of hearing Fauci trying to justify what he did and so is everyone else.

Both Pirro and co-host Jesse Watters took issue with the teachers’ unions and how they botched the whole pandemic mess.

Watters also contended that there was criminal malfeasance by Fauci over the suppressive lockdowns.

“The guy should be sued by every child in the country,” he blunted stated.

Fauci made his comments during day one of The Atlantic Festival, which is a three-day convention put on by the media outlet The Atlantic featuring speeches and interviews from prominent members of the media, the government, and political activists.

He spoke with The Atlantic editor Ross Andersen before a live audience and blamed the “divisiveness” of “social media” for turning each instance of what he advised during the pandemic into a confusing and controversial statement.

“When you have a divisiveness in society where every time you say something, you have X number of people with social media looking to attack it, that adds to the understandable confusion when you’re dealing with an evolving outbreak,” he whined, basically excoriating free speech.

Fauci certainly seems to not know when to zip it as “The Five” suggested. Now, he is admitting that parts of the COVID response were botched.

“We didn’t know masks worked outside of the hospital setting. There was supposedly a shortage of good masks for the people who were taking care of individuals,” Fauci told Evan Smith, CEO of The Texas Tribune, on Thursday.

“Knowledgeable evidence and data evolves and as it evolves, you have to be flexible enough to change, and that’s what science is all about,” he spewed, trying to justify the ever-shifting response to the pandemic that came from him and other leftist leaders.

Fauci went on to claim the choice to close schools was a “difficult decision,” but the learning loss suffered by the students was “worth it” to flatten the curve and save lives.

“It was a right decision at the time and it did have collateral consequences. No one can deny that keeping children out of school has a negative impact on the children,” he told the Tribune.

Fauci charges that he has become a “boogeyman” for conservatives. He says he will cooperate with any congressional investigations after he retires.

“I did not like the idea that, in order to maintain my personal and scientific integrity, and in order to fulfill my obligation to the country, as a public health official, and as a scientist, I had to publicly disagree with several of the things that [former President Donald Trump], who they follow to the last word, was saying,” Fauci defensively stated, according to Fox News.
