Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has been standing on the frontline in the culture war and pressing the charge on woke ideology infiltrating every section of American society. On Friday, he slammed attempts by progressives to make conservatives “second class citizens” with a call to action channeling Winston Churchill, “We must fight…”
America’s Governor was capping off a campaign tour in conjunction with Turning Point USA where he infused his rising Sunshine State star power into stumping for Pennsylvania Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano and Senate nominee JD Vance from Ohio. Having already visited Arizona to endorse Kari Lake and Blake Masters, DeSantis made back to back stops in Pittsburgh, PA and outside Youngstown, OH where he rallied conservatives to challenge the efforts of leftists seeking to impose their authoritarian will on the culture.
“We can’t just stand idly by while woke ideology ravages every institution in our society,” the governor expressed as he picked up momentum. “We must fight the woke in our schools. We must fight the woke in our businesses. We must fight the woke in government agencies. We can never, ever surrender to woke ideology. And I’ll tell ya this, the state of Florida is where woke goes to die.”
The allusion to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s “We shall fight on the beaches” speech was more than hyperbole regarding the threat posed by the progressive agenda as DeSantis went on to provide examples of what they’d openly promoted and aimed to do had they garnered greater control in the legislative branch.
“The Inflation Reduction Act, so-called, I think is an example of how these ruling leftist elites in our country, they consider us to be subjects to be ruled over. They don’t consider us to be citizens on equal footing with them,” he contended. “They think we should bow down to their ideology and that we should just shut up about what we think is right for this country.”
“Think about what they wanted to do if they had just won a couple more Senate races after 2020,” DeSantis explained. “They wanted to pack the U.S. Supreme Court. They wanted to abolish the electoral college. They wanted to make D.C. a state so they’d have two radical Democrat senators for life…and they wanted to pass federal legislation to nullify voter ID all across the country.”
“No one can dispute, that is not an agenda that is trying to answer the concerns of the average American…That is an agenda where they’re trying to make the conservative half of the country second class citizens,” the governor declared.
However, DeSantis’ rallying cry wasn’t strictly directed at voters as he also called out behind-the-scenes influencers to cease their infighting with petty squabbles for control and instead, “get on board and support our governor candidates,” before adding how “very important” it was to back Senate races as well.
“It means Republican organizations in Pennsylvania and throughout the country need to be invested in this race. They need to devote resources to this race,” he contended. That position comes as Dr. Mehmet Oz has seemingly lost the support of Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the powerful National Republican Senatorial Committee which slashed $7.5 million in ad buys in the Keystone State since August 1.
Many felt McConnell had already given up the fight with over two months to go before the midterm election when he said, “Right now, we have a 50-50 Senate and a 50-50 country but I think when all is said and done this fall, we’re likely to have an extremely close Senate. Either our side up slightly or their side up slightly.”
DeSantis’ unwillingness to waver to work for the goals of his constituents has distinguished him as a leader in the Republican party and, as GOP strategist Corry Bliss told NBC News, “He’s arguably the second most popular Republican in America right now.”
The issues the governor has focused on in Florida, “are key issues in races all across the country,” Bliss added, “especially governor’s races.”
“We didn’t just sit idly by hoping that issues didn’t come on our desk,” DeSantis noted during his stump speeches. “We went on offense in the state of Florida. We made sure that we were getting in front of key issues and delivering victories for the state of Florida.”
