Americans are increasingly souring on President Joe Biden with a just-released New York Times poll showing that even Democrats are realizing that the geriatric career politician has been a dumpster fire. This leaves the left searching for an answer, and the quirky Andrew Yang sees a familiar figure as the man on the white horse who could save the country – Matthew McConaughey.
The failed Democrat presidential candidate who also went down in flames during the New York City mayoral primary may have switched his political affiliation to independent but his ideals are as lofty as ever, with his wishful thinking that the beloved “Dallas Buyer’s Club” actor could be the ticket for fixing all that’s wrong with the nation.
Yang made his remarks during Monday’s edition of his “Forward” podcast where he hosted comedian Shane Gillis, when the topic turned to politics and the idea that the 52-year-old actor could ride to the rescue, “God, like, that’s the kind of figure that we need to get us out of this mess,” he gushed.
“You have the Democratic party establishment who are like, ‘hey, you gotta play by these rules, like, we’re gonna act a certain way’, we’re like buttoned up and we have a certain way of presenting — by the way I ran for president in this crew,” Yang said.

“And then you have the Republican party under Trump, that’s become this anti-institutional, f**k everything, burn it down, kind of energy,” he said, “and there’s a Republican establishment within that, that fought Trump and lost… and now everyone’s going along with it.”
“You know, there has to be a kind of this positive ex-institutional energy that comes up and ends up being like this third force in American politics,” Yang continued as he mooned over his wish for a McConaughey White House run.
“So my paragon example of this is someone like Matthew McConaughey,” he said of the actor who toyed with the idea of a run for the governor of his home state of Texas.
“Like, so McConaughey is from outside the institutions, but he’s not an a**hole, like, uh, in the same way Trump is, and so I look at someone like that and think God, like, that’s the kind of figure that we need to get us out of this mess.” Yang said.
“I can’t believe that’s where we’re at,” Gillis said. “Imagine, as a country … 10 years ago…hopefully Matthew McConaughey can get us out of this mess,” echoing Yang’s sentiment.
Yang added that there are other figures in addition to the acclaimed actor who could be possible alternatives to the two parties, including billionaire leftist NBA owner Mark Cuban, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock and even talk show queen Oprah Winfrey.
While he declined to mount a bid to unseat Republican Governor Greg Abbott in the Lone Star State, the Uvalde native got some face time in the political arena when he was brought in by the White House and congressional Democrats to help sell new gun control measures in the aftermath of the massacre at Robb Elementary School that claimed the lives of 19 young children and their two adult teachers in May.
McConaughey spoke during a White House press briefing and schmoozed with Democrat leaders on Capitol Hill including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as the anti-Second Amendment party and its Republican collaborators leveraged his star power to get their bill passed.
Once the most sweeping gun control measures in decades passed, McConaughey hailed the red flag laws that were championed by Dems and a gaggle of Republicans as a “shining example” of compromise.

It’s probably a tall order to believe that McConaughey would be interested in the grueling rigors of a campaign let alone life in the Oval Office but Yang can always wish.
