McConaughey praises ‘gun safety’ bill, calls it ‘shining example’ of compromise that ‘will save innocent lives’

Actor Matthew McConaughey is extremely pleased about the bipartisan “gun safety” bill that was just signed into law by president Joe Biden after a collection of Republicans crossed party lines to stab their own constituents in the back by aligning with Democrats on the most significant restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans in three decades.

The beloved 52-year-old Uvalde, Texas native who made a personal appeal for new gun laws at a White House press briefing earlier this month praised the controversial Safer Communities Act as a “shining example” of what can happen when Democrats and RINOs reach common ground to suppress the rights of gun owners who have been unfairly besmirched by cynical politicians and a corrupt media because of the actions of a few mentally disturbed mass murderers.

In a Sunday column published by the Austin American-Statesman, the award-winning celebrity wrote, “For responsible gun owners, this bill does not take your guns away or restrict access to firearms,” despite legitimate concerns that the federal government’s money to states to fund red flag laws will almost certainly be abused to confiscate guns without due process if a complaint is made by someone who, like Fox News host Tucker Carlson put it, “doesn’t like the cut of your jib, you lose your constitutional rights.”

According to the “Dallas Buyer’s Club” star, “This bill will save innocent lives by keeping guns out of the law-breaking and irresponsible hands that are trying to hijack the Second Amendment.”

“This bill is a responsible investment in the future of our country and in America’s greatest asset, our children,” he wrote. “By coming together and finding a sensible balance, a bipartisan group of lawmakers passed a bill that will help solve a problem we all agree is unbearable.”

“While this bill isn’t perfect, it is a shining example of a great American potential and political virtue: the act of compromise and validating an opposing viewpoint,” McConaughey added. “This is a quintessential virtue of America, where two seemingly contradictory approaches to the same problem can be true at the same time, AND, when combined, actually reveal a more useful and powerful solution than either on its own.”

The actor added, “To heal and save our Democracy, we need to apply these same bipartisan efforts to countless other issues. Only then can we become the America we’re capable of becoming.”

“Now that the president has signed this bill into law, I want to remind all of us Americans that we cannot become complacent and wait on a piece of legislation to solve our problems,” he said. “We each have a duty to protect our freedom AND our rights. We also each have an opportunity to make more responsible choices as we move forward. Ones that serve others AND ourselves. Let’s each and all have a look in the mirror and make those choices that are on us, and only us.”

“Our government took a step in the right direction. Now it’s time for us to remind them AND ourselves what the best of our country is AND can be,” McConaughey wrote.

“America, … the Land of And,” he concluded. “Let’s go.”

After his star turn at the White House earlier this month, some dared to point out that McConaughey may not be the perfect spokesman against gun violence given his on-screen work in which he not only brandished firearms but used them to blow away fellow cast members in a number of his films in a bloody fashion.

But none of it mattered and the hypocrisy was ignored by Democrats and their RINO allies who saw McConaughey as a human shield for their own unpopularity and the advancement of their anti-gun agenda.
