In another sign that our federal taxes could be substantially lowered, the Biden administration has spent almost $1.5 million to cobble together a “transgender programming curriculum” for inmates confined in the country’s 122 federal prisons.
Apparently, rather than an instrument of carceral punishment, federal prisons are now a vehicle of sexual- and self-expression—and all of it at taxpayer expense. Welcome to Joe Biden’s America.
According to reporting at the Washington Free Beacon, the Department of Justice forked over the money to a consulting firm, which was tasked with creating a program meant to assist transgender federal inmates “manage identity concerns during incarceration,” as well as advocate for their “sexual health and safety.” Prisons aren’t exactly known for “sexual health and safety,” but a government summary of the contract insists on this point, and also asks that the firm outline a plan to help transgender inmates find access to hormone treatments upon release from prison.
The Washington Free Beacon notes in their report that there are only an estimated 1,200 transgender prisoners housed in federal prisons, according to statistics provided by the DOJ. Some simple back-of-the-envelope arithmetic suffices to show that the Biden administration disbursed about $1,250 per transgender inmate—more than the $1,200 Americans received in the measly COVID-19 stimulus checks.

It seems to be the latest stunt in the Biden administration’s wider obsession with promoting transgenderism. In March, for instance, the DOJ dispatched a letter to the attorneys general of all states warning them not to restrict transgender hormone treatment for children; the State Department announced in the same month that it would permit applicants to select “X” for their gender on passport applications., according to the Free Beacon. There have also been moves to make it easier for transgender inmates to be housed in correctional facilities that correspond to the gender they identify with.
All this comes as there’s been a predictable increase in the number of sexual assaults by male-to-female transgender inmates in women’s prisons. Apparently, the deviant sexual proclivities of male inmates must be indulged, even at the sacrifice of the right of female inmates to be free of sexual assault by biological males. Female prisoners are suing state governments to keep transgender inmates out of their prisons—but these suits are unlikely to be successful given the headwinds coming from the Department of Justice.
As for the Biden administration’s latest plan, the funds were awarded in 2021 to the Nevada-based consulting firm Change Companies, which designs educational materials for prisons and correctional facilities, as part of a contract that extends through September of this year. When asked by the Free Beacon about the program, the Justice Department responded that it “recognizes the importance of appropriate gender-affirming management and treatment of transgender individuals in its custody.” However, the DOJ had no comment about where the programs had yet been enacted in federal facilities.
Implementing transgender insanity in America’s already insane prison system seems to be a priority for the Biden administration. For instance, a set of guidelines were released earlier this year which prohibit prison guards and staff from “misgendering” inmates, that is to say, referring to them by pronouns that differ from their chosen gender.
The guidelines make it clear that gender merely is “a construct,” which is based on “social identity, psychological identity, and human behavior.”
