Lockdown loving Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. took taxpayer funded trip to Jersey Shore amid pandemic: report

Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman (D), who is also running for the Senate and recently suffered a stroke, evidently decided to take a taxpayer-funded vacation on the Jersey Shore during the pandemic as he was pushing COVID lockdowns.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, he went on holiday just three months into the pandemic even as the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued a warning against non-essential travel due to a surge in cases in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Records indicate that Fetterman blew $3,500 on his security detail’s overtime, food, and lodging while on vacation from June 24-27, 2020, in Ocean City, New Jersey.

The family getaway occurred just two days after New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced a crackdown on maskless beach goers as COVID cases rose in the state.

The vacation was confirmed to the Washington Free Beacon by Joe Calvello, a spokesman for Fetterman’s campaign. Calvello asserted that Fetterman never claimed reimbursement for travel expenses. He also said that the lieutenant governor had cut spending on travel, food, conferences, and office supplies during his first two years in office.

“John and his family do take modest summer vacations like many folks in PA,” Calvello told the Beacon in an interview. He remarked that Alleghany County, where Fetterman lives, “was not in lockdown.”

Despite the claim of modesty, members of Fetterman’s security detail were reportedly guests at the Port-O-Call Hotel, which is a premier resort that is located on Jersey’s Ocean City boardwalk. The Fetterman family has stayed at the resort during other vacations as well, according to the media outlet.

Fetterman was a big advocate for masking up. He implemented crushing lockdown measures as well and promoted social distancing. The Pennsylvania Democrat also hypocritically called for minimizing trips and staying at home during the pandemic.

He remarked in a March 2020 Facebook post that he and his family would curtail travel and public interactions.

“My top job right now is the same as yours — to stay calm and to stay at home, minimizing social interactions and trips to indoor public places — and that’s what Gisele Barreto Fetterman and I will be doing. Karl, Grace, and August are working to adjust to this new norm,” Fetterman said at the time.

“I just can’t emphasize enough how important if you want Pennsylvania to stay open and the hospital beds to stay empty — please wear a mask,” he warned less than a week following his Jersey Shore sojourn. “A mask has nothing to do with your politics or who you’re gonna vote for. It has everything to do with keeping Pennsylvania healthy and keeping Pennsylvania open.”

Following that proclamation, Fetterman was seen maskless on the boardwalk. This is the same guy that insisted that schools staying closed were “an absolute necessity” to halt the spread of the virus. He also blamed “a small, tiny minority” for COVID breakouts in “renegade counties” in 2020.

Despite Fetterman’s shaky health condition following his stroke, he currently leads Trump-endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz (R) by 2 percent in the senate race, according to ABC27 News.

The Fettermans were seen on the Ocean City boardwalk again last month.
