California school board member calls for boycott of Fourth of July: Not a holiday to celebrate

A woke school board member in California, who hasn’t celebrated the Fourth of July since 2016, is calling for a boycott of America’s Independence Day, claiming there is no reason to celebrate in the wake of the Supreme Court’s striking down Roe vs. Wade.

AnaMarie Avila Farias, who is a Contra Costa County resident and a member of the county’s board of education, posted a fading blue and white image of the United States flag on June 28, along with the words “BOYCOTT 4TH OF JULY,” on Facebook.

“I haven’t celebrated 4th of July since 2016 and I don’t think it’s a holiday to celebrate,” she proclaimed on Facebook. “What do you think?”

Commenters had varying opinions concerning her unpatriotic sentiments and proceeded to vent them on social media.

“Why boycott the 4th of July? Without what our forefathers did we as Americans would not have the freedoms that we have today,” one person asked her.

Another asked, “Why? The holiday celebrates declaring independence from Britain’s tyrant King George III. You wish we were still subjects of Britain?”

She couldn’t resist replying to that statement, making her bitterness over the landmark abortion case Roe vs. Wade being overturned central to her lack of patriotism.

“I am not feeling particularly patriotic,” Avila Farias responded, stating the blatantly obvious. “I am especially not interested in celebrating a holiday centered around freedom from oppressive government when that freedom is not a reality for so many people in this country. Lastly, last Friday women’s reproductive rights were taken away. We are not in a place of progress or celebration when human rights are being taken away.”

When a commenter suggested that she “maybe have a funeral and bury the Constitution and the Flag?” Avila Farias enthusiastically shot back, “Please invite me!”

“Resign and then stay far, far away from other people’s children,” another person told her.

“Her posts on her page and her official capacity violate the county board policy 1313 about civility,” another commentator claimed. Farias responded several times in the Facebook thread, calling the person “an uninformed individual” and also saying they “really need to stop fox news watching.”

Since then, Avila Farias has limited who can comment on the post and many of the previous responses can’t be viewed.

The radical Democrat has two children. She proceeded to share a 2020 post from “Medium” that was written by Dana P. Saxon, who is the founder of Ancestors Unknown, a “curriculum and special programming for schools and youth orgs.”

It was titled, “9 Reasons Why I Don’t Celebrate the 4th of July.”

The author states, “After 1776, it took nearly another 100 years before my ancestors technically gained their freedom in 1865. And a whole heap of pain, trauma, and oppression maintained during those years when only white Americans were liberated from someone else’s rule.”

Predictably, the author cited the three-fifths compromise, the 1787 fugitive slave clause, and Frederick Douglass’ 1852 famous speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” as justification for not celebrating America’s freedom.

It should surprise no one that Avila Farias has previously shared pro-abortion, the separation between state and church, and pro-gun control posts on her page.

“It’s her personal Facebook page; she is entitled to say whatever Facebook will allow her to say,” Mike Maxwell, a fellow school board member, told Fox News via email. “And while I also am disappointed with the recent developments in honoring rights among Americans, I do not agree with her statement.”

“As long as she is not making the statement on behalf of the Board and County, go for it. But the smart voters will connect who is making that statement,” he predicted.

Many are fed up with leftist elitists who have proclaimed their hatred for America over the abortion ruling.

The Contra Costa Republican Party (CCRP) was not so forgiving of Avila Farias’ statements and in fact, want her to resign.

“This type of rhetoric is absolutely disgusting,” Chairman Matt Shupe told Fox News.

“The greatness in America is that people from all different political persuasions, opinions, and perspectives are able to have their voices heard and respected, and at the end of the day, we all love this country, regardless of who the president is or who runs Congress,” he remarked.

“The fact that Contra Costa County Democrats are basically protesting this country and its foundation and its core and don’t believe in it anymore, I think speaks more volumes to their very twisted thinking and sad ideology at this point,” Shupe commented. “Most Americans don’t want this type of rhetoric in our education system.”
