Friend of Clarence Thomas explains why he can’t be destroyed by the left’s ‘racist’ attacks

It’s surprising to no one that the Left has lost its mind over the Supreme Court’s abortion ruling.

What’s maybe a little more surprising is the vicious rancor directed at Justice Clarence Thomas, specifically. Mark Paoletta, a former White House lawyer and friend of Clarence Thomas, appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to discuss why that was.

“Why Thomas?” Tucker asked. “Why are they going after one out of six?”

“Because the Left is racist, Tucker,” Paoletta explained. “They expect Clarence Thomas to think the way a black man should, based on the color of his skin. And Clarence Thomas for 30 years, 40 years has refused to do that, and they want to destroy him. And that is what they’ve been doing in coming after him and the bottom line is: Clarence Thomas doesn’t care at all what they think.”

The Left’s hatred of Justice Thomas has a lengthy pedigree; one need look no further than our illustrious president, who made a disreputable name for himself attempting to derail Thomas’ nomination in what the slandered justice himself characterized as a “high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves.” So it wasn’t long before white progressives showed their true colors, calling Thomas a “dirty porch monkey” among other less savory epithets.

Many people are beginning to notice the increasingly racist rhetoric employed by leftist opponents of Thomas as if a mask is slipping, and they’ve come to the same conclusions that Thomas did 31 years ago when he was subjected to such disgraceful treatment by Senate Democrats. Darvio Morrow, in an opinion piece at Newsweek, described what many people are just realizing.

“The worst part about this is I’m not surprised,” Morrow wrote. “It only further reinforces every critique I have about modern white progressivism. Many of these people do not view black people as equals but as tools that give credibility and moral authority to their ideology. Many white progressives view themselves as the ‘savior’ of black people, and as a result, they unconsciously believe we owe them our undying loyalty. That’s why when anyone crosses them, they attack with a particular level of venom.”

As for Thomas, it’s nothing he hasn’t experienced before. Paoletta affirmed that it’s just more of the same from leftists and progressives and that recent Supreme Court rulings have only vindicated Thomas’ longstanding positions.

“It’s just so funny, though,” Carlson observed, “I mean, if you compare the attitudes of the average black guy in America to the average white liberal in America on abortion, the black guy is way more opposed to abortion than the average white liberal. So why does Clarence Thomas have to have the same views as an NPR listener?”

“And that’s what he’s been saying for 40 years,” Paoletta replied, “and it’s the Left demands it, and they will go after him. But it is a great day for the Constitution with Roe being overturned, with the Second Amendment being strengthened consistent with the Constitution, with religious liberties coming down consistent with the Constitution, and it’s all aligning with where Clarence Thomas has been for the past 30 years.”
