Jussie Smollett insists he’s not a ‘piece of sh*t’, wants to see prison system ‘dismantled’ after 6-day stint

Jussie Smollett is back and better than ever.

Fresh off a six-day sentence in jail, Smollett wants the world to know that he’s actually a really great guy and that a racist and homophobic world has wronged him in ways that are too painful to even contemplate. The 40-year-old actor was found guilty earlier this year of having paid two Nigerian men to pose as homophobic, deplorable Trump supporters and “assault” him on the streets of Chicago on a frigid January night in 2019.

Smollet, who is not suicidal and enjoys tuna sandwiches at Subway at two in the morning, claimed to be attacked with a noose and a bottle of bleach, but it all turned out to be a poorly-concocted scheme to stage a phony hate crime. But now, after recovering from his six days of confinement, Smollett appeared on Sway Calloway’s “Sway in the Morning” Sirius XM radio program to tell the world his truth.

You can watch the whole interview below.

“If I had done this, I’d be a piece of s–t,” Smollett explained with admirable frankness. “And I don’t think that’s really questionable.”

So far, so good. However, Smollett hastened to add that it was simply impossible for him, as a gay black man, to have had anything to do with the attack. It would be nearly as impossible as encountering two black Trump supporters in downtown Chicago at two in the morning, in the midst of a record-setting cold snap, and having them shout “this is MAGA country” at you.

“If I had done something like this, it would mean that I stuck my fist in the pain of black African Americans in this country for over 400 years,” Smollett said. “It would mean that I stuck my fist in the fears of the LGBTQ community all over the world. I am not that motherf—er. Never have been. Don’t need to be.”

The disgraced actor then observed that his stint in the Cook County jail allowed him to “reset and regain clarity,” mostly through fasting.

“I was not fasting for lent. I was fasting because that’s what we do in my family, we fast for clarity,” he explained. The dearth of tuna sandwiches, cheesy potatoes au gratin, and fizzy margarita cocktails on the jail’s menu almost certainly had nothing to do with Smollett’s “fasting.”

He also spoke at length of the horrors of his weeklong stint in the slammer. At one point during the interview, Smollett darkly alluded to the time he was thrown into a psych ward.

“Lord knows I wanted to get out,” he said, as a haunted look crept into his eyes. “I was in a f–ing psych ward…I was sleeping on a restraint bed but I wasn’t restrained.”

Despite the relentless persecution and suffering that he’s evidently experienced, Smollett remains unbroken and undefeated by the oppressive system. So much more than making lemonade from the lemons life gave him, Smollett used his time in prison profitably—ensconcing him firmly among a pantheon of unjustly imprisoned civil rights leaders, like Nelson Mandela and Malcom X.

“There’s something about being in there and you have no choice but to surrender yourself,” he observed. “Not to the system, not to a judge or a bunch of old white men ironically explaining to you about the history of hate crimes, but you’re surrendering to yourself. You’re just left there with you, your thoughts, and these walls.”

“I believe that the prison system needs to be dismantled,” he concluded, despite admitting that everyone was very nice to him at the jail.
