SpaceX employees who solicited signatures for ‘open letter’ ripping Musk get the boot, with no apologies

SpaceX has reportedly fired a number of employees for “overreaching activism” who criticized Elon Musk for allegedly inappropriate behavior and for his “No A**hole” policy.

The letter of complaint, which was initially reported by The Verge, was evidently not well-received by Musk who does not seem to tolerate woke fools much. It slammed Musk for his prolific and conservative-leaning tweets, as well as allegations of sexual harassment. Musk has denied those charges.

Reuters is reporting that at least five employees got the boot. In a list of three demands, the letter by the terminated employees said “SpaceX must swiftly and explicitly separate itself from Elon’s personal brand,” should “hold all leadership equally accountable to making SpaceX a great place to work for everyone” and “define and uniformly respond to all forms of unacceptable behavior.”

The signatories of the letter complained that Musk’s actions negatively reflected on the work and values of SpaceX employees.

“As our CEO and most prominent spokesperson, Elon is seen as the face of SpaceX — every Tweet that Elon sends is a de facto public statement by the company. It is critical to make clear to our teams and to our potential talent pool that his messaging does not reflect our work, our mission, or our values,” the letter read.

SpaceX staffers reportedly called the CEO’s comments “a frequent source of distraction and embarrassment,” and then had the gall to call on top leadership to rein him in. Musk is the controlling shareholder of the privately held company, with his trust owning approximately 78% of SpaceX’s voting shares as of 2021, according to CNBC.

Gwynne Shotwell, who is the president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, gave a definitive answer to the letter in an email and “terminated a number of employees involved” with it on Thursday afternoon, according to The New York Times.

“You may have received an unsolicited request from a small group of SpaceX employees for your signature on an ‘open letter’ yesterday and your participation in a related survey. Based on diverse employee feedback, this has upset many. That is, the letter, solicitations, and general process made employees feel uncomfortable, intimidated and bullied, and/or angry because the letter pressured them to sign onto something that did not reflect their views,” Shotwell wrote.

“Employees also complained that it interfered with their ability to focus on and do their work. We have 3 launches within 37 hours for critical satellites this weekend, we have to support the astronauts we delivered to the ISS and get cargo Dragon back to the flight-ready, and after receiving environmental approval early this week, we are on the cusp of the first orbital launch attempt of Starship. We have too much critical work to accomplish and no need for this kind of overreaching activism — our current leadership team is more dedicated to ensuring we have a great and ever-improving work environment than any I have seen in my 35-year career,” she remarked.

“We solicit and expect our employees to report all concerns to their leadership, senior management, HR, or Legal. But blanketing thousands of people across the company with repeated unsolicited emails and asking them to sign letters and fill out unsponsored surveys during the work day is unacceptable, goes against our documented handbook policy, and does not show the strong judgement needed to work in this very challenging space transportation sector. We performed an investigation and have terminated a number of employees involved,” Shotwell stated.

“Please stay focused on the SpaceX mission, and use your time at work to do your best work. This is how we will get to Mars,” she advised employees.

One anonymous employee who helped write the letter argued that the general sentiment among other employees is that Shotwell’s email is “tone-deaf,” according to The Verge. The employee asserted that the letter was the result of a “month of dedicated hard work and soliciting feedback to try and make sure we got as much input as possible.”

Many were quick to point out to leftists screeching over free speech on Twitter, that Musk is in fact their employer and owns the company:

  1. You know, I drive a truck for a living, and I enjoy what I do everyday. Still though, I think SpaceX would be a pretty cool place to work. With these snowflakes melting, it sounds even nicer. Before becoming a CDL operator, I spent many years working in telecom as an engineer and IT geek. That’s probably why I would consider relocation and working there if I had an opportunity.

  2. Liberalism is a disease. There is no cure. It cannot be bred out of existence because its primary source is genetic. But hold on now, there is a way to eradicate this disease it’s done by voting it out of existence. Is there any other option? Yes there is, the one we are living now. If only we had another 80 million Elon Musks. Oh, but we do!

  3. The former Musk employees went “woke”, so, now they`re going to be broke. Karma does exist!

  4. Crazy liberals with no brains want the genius head of their company silenced! What effen morons! Good way to get rid of dead wood!

  5. Got news for the woke flakes- the company is supposed to reflect “his work, his mission, and his values.” not yours, nor spend your worktime soliciting and harassing employees to get as many letter signers as possible.

  6. I’m hopeful that these three ingrates find themselves unemployable and end up homeless.

    1. Unfortunately, they will likely soon become attached to one of the myriad of government teats; that is living off of the rest of us taxpayers.

  7. Outstanding Space X! Employees are not employers! DO your job and shut the f up! If you’re not happy quit! Pretty easy. Cracks me up when folks take jobs knowing who hired them and what the wages are only to start shit with their employers when they start work! Then think they have rights and can’t get fired for bad mouthing them! Hilarious…..

  8. This is why your hire in Asia. People there are gratful to have a job. Never will i hire in America again

    1. Like you have a business that hires . 🤣🤣🤣
      Go back to sleep troll!

      America is for Americans

    2. Something about your post just doesn’t smell right. Mildew, sump odor, just dried laundry….Got It.

So, what kind of business are you running out of Mom’s basement?
