The opening of the sham “January 6 Hearing” on Thursday turned out to be a dud, despite the rather unimpressive stagecraft of a former ABC News executive and quickly devolved into the fallback Democratic slurs painting their opponents as racists, fascists, and all-around bad people.
But despite all the transparent theatrics, the real aim of the “House Select Committee Investigating the Jan. 6 Attack on the Capitol” has always been to defame and—if possible—take down Donald J. Trump. And this point was made in a pretty explicit manner in an interview CNN’s Jake Tapper conducted with the committee’s chairman, Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS).
For those who didn’t watch the proceedings last night, Thompson was the one who opened the show trial with a strained comparison of the events on January 6 to the lynchings and slavery of America’s checkered past—old sins, it should be noted, that were the exclusive crimes of the Democratic Party and its political predecessors.
The interview was part of CNN’s hyperbolic “Attack on Democracy: The January 6th Hearings” coverage, which has duly and uncritically parroted the committee’s talking points.
“Are you building a criminal case?” Tapper asked Thompson. “I know you can’t charge, but are you building a criminal case for the Justice Department, potentially to charge Donald Trump with seditious conspiracy?”
Thompson spent a long time saying “yes” without ever actually saying the word, demonstrating that the whole point of the committee has only ever been to succeed where all other Democratic and establishment attempts to criminalize Donald Trump have failed. To say that the former president lives rent-free in their heads must be the understatement of the century.
“Well, we are building a case based on the facts and circumstances that our investigation determined,” Thompson replied. “We’ve filed with the court in California, certain aspects of what our findings have been. And the judge ruled that there were certain things that the president is guilty of that—”
“Yeah,” Tapper interrupted, “or could be guilty of.”
“Could be guilty of,” Thompson agreed. The level of sympathetic synergy between Tapper and his subject was truly remarkable to behold.
“But,” Thompson hastened to add, “as you said, that’s not our job. We are there to look solely at the facts and circumstance and provide recommendations to Congress.
“Now, the Justice Department has inquired as to our sharing of our information. We expect to make that available to them at some point because this whole effort is a publicly-funded endeavor. So, the public has a right to know,” he continued.
The public has a right to know many things, but the committee has been very selective in what it allows the public to see. It has been suspiciously incurious, for instance, about the question of federal involvement in the riot, including the mystery of Ray Epps and the still-unidentified “pipe bomber.”
Tapper then lobbed this obvious softball at his guest: “But would you agree with the reporting that Jamie Gangel offered earlier today, which is that you have a lot of audiences for your hearings, but there are also is Attorney General Merrick Garland as somebody that you expect and hope is watching. You are talking to him also. You are presenting a case for him to consider.”
Tapper was practically begging Thompson to assure him that the AG would immediately prefer charges against Trump.
“Well, we are presenting the facts to the public,” Thompson replied, hedging his response. “I think that if the attorney general gets an opportunity to view the entirety of our records, it would be very helpful to him. But that’s in his lane.
“We are not trying to confuse the two. But at some point, we do plan to cooperate, if requested. And that’s what any law-abiding citizen would want to do,” he added.
Translated from political-speak, that likely means, yes, Attorney General Merrick Garland will definitely be requesting the committee’s cooperation at some point in the future, in order to charge Trump with sedition, treason, and all kinds of mopery. After all, colluding with federal law enforcement to imprison political opponents is the Democratic Party’s new modus operandi.
Just ask Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Ryan Kelley.

The January 6th Commission’s purpose is to draw attention and hopefully put a dent in the massive voter switch from democrat to Republican for this coming election. It is noise, and it’s meant as a distraction from inflation, border policies, etc., all the things that are quickly working to destroy this nation. That is all it is! No truth, all sham!
“We expect to make that available to them at some point because this whole effort is a publicly-funded endeavor. So, the public has a right to know”
That is absolutely correct. We have a right to know how much WE are paying for this publicly-funded, one sided, partisan, secretive endeavor.
They are wasting the taxpayers time and money. If there is evidence of a crime, then law enforcement should be investigating, not the politicians who frankly are not doing the jobs they were elected to do.
Bottom line. If any crooked Demonrat can run for office, President Trump can run. He certainly is not more corrupt than say Hillary, or Nancy, or Chucky, or Gerry Nadler, or any or them.
More like the committee asked Tapper to ask that question. That’s how the Democraps do things.
I am sure they are headed for another attempt to criminalizing Trump. Timing is nportant for the dems. here Needs to be just before midterms as a distraction. I said this in 2020 that the dems. will pull out all ther stops to win the election to get Trump off heir backvbefore he completely exposes them. They have to keep control of at least one of the houses to avoid being the ones in front of congress explaining their teasonous actions. They will once again pull al the stops to win.
The J6 show is an attempt to persuade Repubs. from coming out to vote.
Pure projection, Tapper, as the Jan. 6 committee members ARE the criminals, all of whom should be tried for violating their oaths of office, and, for treason.
