Former President Donald J. Trump put an end to the suspense about whether he would support House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy when he formally endorsed the California Republican, a blessing that didn’t sit well with some who have been extremely critical of the man who stands to replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House if the GOP wins back control of the lower chamber in November’s midterm elections as expected.
On Sunday, Trump committed to backing McCarthy despite his incendiary recorded remarks that were highly critical of the sitting POTUS in the waning days of his historic term after the so-called “insurrection” on January 6, 2021.
In a statement that was issued through his Save America PAC, the former and perhaps future POTUS sang McCarthy’s praises, serving up his “complete and total endorsement” of the embattled congressman although he stopped short of endorsing him to be the next speaker if Democrats are dislodged from control of the House as expected.
According to Trump, “Congressman Kevin McCarthy is an outstanding representative for the people of California and a strong and fearless leader of the House Republican Conference.”
“In Congress, Kevin is a tireless advocate for the people of Bakersfield and the Central Valley,” he wrote. “He is working incredibly hard to Stop Inflation, Deliver Water Solutions, and Hold Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi Accountable for their catastrophic failures and dereliction of duty.”

“As Leader, Kevin is building a ‘Commitment to America’ platform to Grow our Economy, Fight Big Tech Censorship, Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Defend the Second Amendment, Improve our Health Care, Restore American Energy Independence, Support our Brave Veterans, and Uphold the Rule of Law and American Values,” Trump wrote. “Kevin McCarthy has my Complete and Total Endorsement for California’s 20th Congressional District!”
Some on Twitter expressed their shock, disappointment and dismay that Trump would put the seal of approval on a man whom they view as a feckless RINO.
First Dr Oz now Kevin McCarthy

Trump endorsing Frank Luntz bunk buddy Kevin McCarthy, instead of using his political capital to undermine bad GOP leadership, is a sign that Trump has not learned much after all this time about who is and is not America First.

Trump's endorsement of RINO traitor Kevin McCarthy is as f'ng dumb as his endorsement of Dr. Oz, just what the hell?🤦♂️

Trump’s endorsement of RINO Kevin McCarthy is proving how out of touch he’s gotten after leaving the White House.
Further endorsements like this will push more of his support away.

Trump’s endorsement comes after leaked audio of McCarthy’s phone calls which have been selectively leaked to media outlets that have published stories in a drip, drip, drip fashion to lay the groundwork for Pelosi’s hand-picked select committee’s nationally televised show trials which will kick off in prime time this week.
In one recording of McCarthy obtained by The New York Times and shared with CNN’s rabidly partisan anchor Jake Tapper, McCarthy could be heard openly disparaging Trump two days after the chaos at the U.S. Capitol building.
“What the president did is atrocious and totally wrong…I do think the impeachment divides the nation further and continues to divide it even greater. That’s why I want to reach out to Biden. I wanted the president to meet with Biden, but that’s not going to happen,” McCarthy said.

Fox News’ host Tucker Carlson responded to McCarthy’s remarks on the leaked audio in the strongest of terms, saying that he is little more than a “puppet” of the Democratic Party.
Tucker Carlson: “Unless Conservatives get their act together right away, @GOPLeader or one of his highly liberal allies like @RepStefanik is very likely to be Speaker of the House in January. That would mean we would have a GOP Congress headed by a puppet of the Democratic Party” pic.twitter.com/e26M88EYcJ

While the endorsement of the former POTUS has more often than not been pure gold for Republican candidates, McCarthy is widely despised and distrusted and if Trump ends up throwing his backing behind him for the speakership, it’s going to be a bitter pill for many to choke down.
