Fox News host Tucker Carlson lambasted House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday over a leaked post-Jan. 6 recording, calling him a “puppet of the Democratic Party” while pointing out that he shouldn’t be Speaker of the House and that he “sounds like an MSNBC contributor.”
Carlson warned Republicans that there needs to be a change in leadership. To make his point, he referred to an excerpt from the soon-to-be-released book, “This Will Not Pass,” written by New York Times reporters Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin.
In the book, the authors quote McCarthy four days after the Jan. 6 protest took place telling other Republican House leaders that perhaps Twitter should ban incendiary accounts that sent out tweets that appeared to support the incident.
“We can’t put up with that,” McCarthy reportedly proclaimed during a Jan. 10, 2021, call that was leaked according to the New York Times. “Can’t they take their Twitter accounts away, too?”
Kevin McCarthy urged Republican on a private call to monitor the public statements of lawmakers, such as Mo Brooks and Matt Gaetz and alert him of any potentially dangerous messages. He had specifically taken issue with an interview that Gaetz Had about Liz Cheney.😲😤😡

“Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California told his close friend Liz Cheney that he hoped the social media companies would censor more conservative Republicans in Congress,” Carlson commented. “Donald Trump, the sitting president, had already been silenced by those companies. But McCarthy wanted the tech oligarchs to do more and force disobedient lawmakers off the Internet.”
“Those are the tape-recorded words of Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a man who in private, turns out, sounds like an MSNBC contributor. And yet, unless conservatives get their act together right away, Kevin McCarthy, or one of his highly liberal allies like Elise Stefanik, is very likely to be Speaker of the House in January. That would mean we will have a Republican Congress led by a puppet of the Democratic Party.”
“You can start to see why the people in charge oppose transparency and fervently support censorship – on both sides,” Carlson continued. “Why? Because the more you know about them, the less satisfied you’re likely to become with their leadership.”
On Tuesday, CNN got a hold of a leaked call between House Republican leaders McCarthy, Steve Scalise (R-La.), and others that discussed rhetoric from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and a number of other Republicans following the Jan. 6 protest. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was all over the recording and gleefully ran with it.

“So I’m calling Gaetz,” McCarthy stated. “I’m explaining to him, I don’t know what I’m going to say, but I’m gonna have some other people call him too. But the nature of what – if I’m getting a briefing, I’m going get another tomorrow – this is serious sh*t, to cut this out.”
McCarthy would go on to tear into Reps. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), Barry Moore (R-Ala.), and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas).
“What did Mo Brooks say down at that rally, though?” McCarthy started off asking during the call.
“It’s the kicking a** and taking names thing is the one that I’ve seen the most from people. I didn’t watch the speech, but that — that’s, a number of members said that to me, so that he used that term,” an unknown Republican answers.
“And Louie said — like, we need to fight or something, right? Didn’t you say something a couple of days out that was horrendous?” McCarthy responded.
“Something like that, yes. It was incendiary,” the caller noted.
“You’ve got the Maxine Waters and all that stuff, too, so. I know the Dems are in a very strong position right now to drive a lot of things. But on Mondays, we’ve got to start paying attention to what they say, too, and you can’t put up with that type of sh*t,” McCarthy asserted.

“Brooks apparently said, ‘Today’s the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking a**.’ Which I would say is even a step further than kind of the rhetorical take, you know?” the caller posited.
“You think the president deserves to be impeached for his comments [INAUDIBLE]. All right, someone give me the info of what they said. Have either of them apologized for what they’ve done?” McCarthy asked.
“I have not seen that anywhere. And there is an issue with Alabama. Barry Moore has said some things today, even, that we should look at, honestly,” the caller said.
“What did Barry say today?” the minority leader said.
“All right, so he deleted the personal Twitter account, but Jamie Dupree with the Atlanta Journal got screenshots. He said about 22 hours ago, ‘Wow, we have more arrests for stealing a podium on Jan. 6 than we do for stealing an election on Nov. 3, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Detroit would be places I recommend you start. There is video evidence of these crimes as well, #ElectionIntegrityMatters,” the caller elaborated.
A GOP sweep of the Senate and House in 2022 while keeping McCarthy and McConnell in their leadership positions would be a squandered opportunity. We would be in no better position than we are now.

“Moore also made this tweet on the Saturday night, as the U.S. Capitol police officer who shot and killed a woman, as she tried to get into the lobby, so he tweeted at Marjorie Greene…, ‘I understand it was a black police officer that shot the white female veteran, you know that doesn’t fit the narrative,’” the caller added.
“What? Oh, man,” McCarthy winced.
“This is what we have to confront with this,” the caller warned.
That was when McCarthy asked, “Can’t they take their Twitter accounts away, too?”
During a call that was released last week between McCarthy and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), McCarthy allegedly said he believed former President Donald Trump should have resigned following the Jan. 6 protest. He later went on to deny he said that.
