MSNBC, a channel that regularly peddles conspiracy theories, continues to equate election integrity with “cheating” in the run-up to the November midterm balloting.
According to an MSBC host, “trashy” Republicans have to rely on deception to win, even as the country is engulfed in a series of domestic and international crises under President Joe Biden and a Congress controlled by his fellow Democrats.
For quite some time, the liberal network has been spinning what seems like a coordinated narrative that a GOP takeover of Congress — which seems likely, at least according to current projections — is a threat to democracy in what appears to be a preemptive way to discredit the outcome, assuming America indeed rejects the radical policies of the Democrats.
This is the same corporate media outlet, among many others, that has argued that raising questions about the 2020 election is unpatriotic or worse. Yet the political/media establishment also spent about four-plus years claiming that the 2016 election was illegitimate.

The latest example of this form of projection by so-called democracy advocates who actually champion authoritarianism occurred on “The Cross Connection” when host Tiffany Cross lamented nefarious, as she sees it, efforts by the Republican Party to prevent vote fraud, which is the ultimate form of voter disenfranchisement.
From the left’s standpoint, legal measures that reinforce ballot security and aim to prevent fraud are apparently equivalent to voter suppression. To most liberals, for example, requiring a government-issued photo ID to vote is the equivalent of waterboarding.
Cross was referring to a somewhat nuanced-sounding article from Politico about the GOP’s otherwise reasonable efforts to make sure the 2022 election is on the level.
According to Politico, “Video recordings of Republican Party operatives meeting with grassroots activists provide an inside look at a multi-pronged strategy to target and potentially overturn votes in Democratic precincts: Install trained recruits as regular poll workers and put them in direct contact with party attorneys.”
The article continued: “The plan, as outlined by a Republican National Committee staffer in Michigan, includes utilizing rules designed to provide political balance among poll workers to install party-trained volunteers prepared to challenge voters at Democratic-majority polling places, developing a website to connect those workers to local lawyers and establishing a network of party-friendly district attorneys who could intervene to block vote counts at certain precincts…”
A histrionic Cross characterized the above-referenced article as a “bombshell” that revealed the “latest danger to democracy.”
Further riffing on the Politico piece, Cross alerted her viewers, if any, of the GOP’s “multi-pronged strategy, first recruiting hyper-partisan volunteer poll watchers to challenge voters on Election Day, then tracking their objections on a special website so that MAGA-sympathetic lawmakers can later intervene to try to block the vote counts in heavily Democratic or in precincts of mostly people of color. They’re doing all of this while crying about voter fraud on the other side. Now the RNC says it’s ‘attempting to rectify an imbalance in favor of Democratic election workers in large urban areas.'”
She went on to claim, “We hear you; we know what urban means. But don’t be fooled. If you’ve been paying attention, we know this was coming. Everyone who wants to preserve democracy should pay extra close attention because this plan to subvert the election should not come as a surprise. They’ve been telling us since they lost in 2020. They know their policies are trash, they know they can’t win elections on the merits, so it sure looks like at this point, they’re going to cheat because they’re telling us they’re going to cheat to make sure they win instead. The question is what are we going to do about it. What are federal agencies going to do about it? What are lawmakers going to do about it?”
Cross and her colleagues may be play-acting for a paycheck, and to pander to their rapidly diminishing audience, which is described in professional wrestling as kayfabe.
As it has often been insisted by those who follow politics closely, however, the left often accuses the right of what the left is actually doing.
