MSNBC host Tiffany Cross backs unhinged claim Clarence Thomas ‘most corrupt justice in history’

A regular MSNBC panelist with a history of making outlandish, if not unhinged, statements about conservatives, claims, without evidence, that highly respected Clarence Thomas, the longest currently-serving member of the U.S. Supreme Court, “is arguably the most corrupt justice in American history.”

Tiffany Cross, the host of the ratings-challenged “Cross Connection” on the seldom-watched left-wing network that regularly peddles conspiracy theories, teed up the segment with soundbite from Justice Thomas lamenting the leak of colleague Samuel Alito’s draft, unofficial opinion in a closely watched abortion-rights case.

Thomas said, in part, that trust in the traditional internal confidentiality of high court deliberations “is gone forever.”

In the video clip embedded above,  Cross smeared Thomas’ spouse as a “pro-insurrectionist wife,” before tossing it to guest Elie Mystal,

“Clarence Thomas is arguably, with his wife, the most corrupt justice in American history,” Mystal then claimed to Cross, who nodded in approval.

“We have never in American history had a situation where a justice’s spouse is out there advocating for things, pinning medals on people, and then bringing those people to their spouse’s courtroom. That just doesn’t happen,” he asserted.

“So for one of the, if not the, most corrupt justices in American history to then be lecturing other people on the sacredness of the institution — it’s mind-bogglingly insulting, but this is what Clarence Thomas does,” Mystal’s rant continued.

Mystal is the “justice” correspondent for the far-left Nation magazine and a graduate (of course) of Harvard Law School.

He then wondered who is going to “check” Thomas.

“Who is going to tell Clarence Thomas no. And…if you look at people who are frustrated with the response to these people, it is who is going to tell these people no. Who is going to tell these people stop? Who is going to tell these people this far and no further? And so far the answer is nobody…and that’s where we are where we are.”

Nominated by President George H.W. Bush, Justice Thomas joined the court in October 1991 after controversial Senate Judiciary hearings chaired by then-Sen. Joe Biden. He was narrowly confirmed in the Senate for the lifetime appointment by a vote of 52-48.

“The left has been furious over the fact that Thomas’ wife, Ginni, had sent text messages to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows urging him to challenge Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss in the months following the election,” Fox News explained.

“Thomas’ spouse is a lawyer who runs a political-lobbying firm and has a history of conservative political activism, which has prompted liberal fears that she has influenced the Court in some way,” FNC added.

What the left seems to overlook is in the context of potential conflicts of interest is that many Democrats in government have spouses or significant others who are liberal activists, corporate media journalists, and so forth.

Moreover, the condemnation of Ginni Thomas seems to run counter to the feminist belief in empowered women.

Reacting to Mystal’s comments, respected George Washington Univ. law professor Jonathan Turley, a self-described liberal, wrote on Twitter that “it is another insulting and unsupported claim dressed up as legal analysis…The accusation appears based on the fact that Thomas’ wife has a political career and has been an active conservative activist. Would a liberal justice be viewed as ‘corrupt’ if his or her spouse was a pro-abortion activist?

“Mystal has previously denounced the Constitution as ‘trash’ and the Framers as ‘racist misogynistic jerk faces.’ The danger is that the White House is yielding to this national rage addiction,” Turley concluded.
