Not your guy: McEnany reminds Conservatives that Johnny Depp once joked about assassinating Trump

With the post-verdict analysis of the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial ongoing, some conservatives are cheering the jury’s decision to award over $10 million in damages to the popular actor as a victory in the larger culture war and Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany offered up some perspective.

McEnany who served as former President Donald J. Trump’s White House press secretary chided Republicans who celebrated Depp’s big win in the sordid legal battle between the two privileged, wealthy celebrities, reminding them that he had once mused about the assassination of Trump who was public enemy number one among the beautiful people in Hollywood.

During Thursday’s edition of “Outnumbered” on Fox News, McEnany offered up her take on the trial, the toxic relationship between the briefly married couple as well as Depp’s controversial remarks about Trump.

“These are two people that were in a toxic relationship, they are both very flawed, they both have problems, that was evident in both of their testimony, and look, I know that there was a verdict of that was 15 million against Amber Heard, $2 million against one of Johnny Depp’s agents,” she said. “But let’s be clear, there are no winners here, not a single person in this case is a winner.

“We heard about their personal life, intimate details. And I think that those who are celebrating Johnny Depp are a bit misguided, in my view, she added. “I remember Johnny Depp as being the actor who said, and I’ll read it directly, ‘When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?’ that’s when President Trump was president, I see some Republicans celebrating him, I don’t think that this is your guy.”

McEnany was referring to Depp’s 2017 “joke” at the Glastonbury music festival, a remark made at the height of hysteria after Trump’s historic upset of the heavily-favored Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, a sentiment likely shared by many of his fellow celebrity leftists.

McEnany’s trip down memory lane came on the day after the GOP House Judiciary Committee spiked the ball after Heard’s defeat, tweeting out a GIF of Depp in his most famous role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise, a tweet that immediately went viral, triggering leftists who wailed in outrage.

“If you’re looking for someone and I totally absolutely believe in due process and people should be heard, look at Brett Kavanaugh, not Johnny Depp,” McEnany added, referring to the Supreme Court justice who was subjected to a despicable, orchestrated smear campaign by Democrats who dredged up decades-old allegations that he sexually assaulted women at drunken parties.

The Virginia jury brought an end to the lurid, sensationalist legal battle that has grabbed headlines for weeks, siding with the 58-year-old Depp in his lawsuit claiming that ex-wife Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed did grave damage to his reputation and cost him potential roles in movies, including Captain Jack Sparrow in future “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.

Depp was unanimously awarded $10 million in compensatory damages for libel along with another $5 million in punitive damages, the penalty for libel, although due to a Virginia statute the punitive amount was capped at $350,000. The jury also awarded Heard $2 million in her own defamation countersuit.

  1. Johnny Depp does not have to be on my side of politics in order for me to be THRILLED THAT HE WON this case. I am a mother, grandmother, and sister; in my family are several precious men who have suffered grave injustices and cruelty from women. The women in my family are sick and tired of it, and we are glad to see one of these women brought down. BRAVO! Now my prayer is for Johnny– I pray that the Lord will bring a Christian across his path to show him The Way; there is hope for johnny Depp.

  2. 🖕there’s my cheer for deppschit,,,🖕there’s my cheer for ambergivehead,,,,nobody gives two schitts except the media,,, 🖕my cheer for the media,,,,,,,FJB,,,,,,,,,
    sympl1

  3. We are not cheering FOR Johnny Depp.

We are cheering because the jury recognized Heard as a liar and had the courage to reject pressure to reject the current knee-jerk “me-too” trend.

  4. Am not a fan, two trainwreck on the world’s stage for reality TV. You think there’s nothing worse going on in this country, such as a fool is running this country in to the abyss. Really!!!!

  5. Do a little research…… These two ALREADY were tried in civil court in London and jury found FOR Amber….AGAINST DEPPE…on 12 … TWELVE…counts of domestic violence!

This info was WITHHELD from trial in US…so as NOT TO INFLUENCE JURY. …. (and to protect DEPPE.)

While not a fan of either of these individuals….believe both were very flauded…. But feel the US celebrity, brain washed society did an injustice to women with verdict in US trial….especially since “charges”/”accusations” were the same in both countries!

Hard to believe that with as much “focus on US liberal SUPPORT for women” agenda that London jurors interpreted DEPPE’S behaviors TOTALLY DIFFERENT and to be “domestic violence” and US jurors not only accepted them, but supported them! Just saying!!!!

    1. Do a little research into the differences in our legal system vs that of the UK.

There was no jury. The Brits haven’t used juries in civil cases for almost 100 years.

      It was a single Judge.

And he did NOT find for Heard. He found in favor of the Newspaper being sued. Heard testified on behalf of the The Sun and the judge rejected some of her accounts.

There were no “counts”. Depp was not on trial.

Tell us please, where did you come up with the nonsense about “…London jurors interpreted…”. What was your source for that particularly stupid statement?

Or did you simply ASSUME instead of doing a little research.

  6. People can change. Maybe he’s more conservative now that he’s seen the dark side of the leftists up close and personal.

  7. I completely recall that. “When was the last time an actor shot a president”. Though I think this guy does not know what he is saying half the time, he is merely playing to the audience. Regardless, a stupid thing to say and frankly, does make him look like a moron – with severely poor taste in women. Kate Moss notwithstanding
