A tweet from the official account of the GOP House Judiciary Committee that was an apparent attempt to troll supporters of actress Amber Heard who was on the losing end of a defamation lawsuit to ex-husband Johnny Deep got a big reaction on Twitter, nearly all of it being severely negative.
On Wednesday, a Virginia jury unanimously awarded Depp with more than $10 million in a trial that has dominated headlines for weeks, a verdict that some have seen as a larger victory for men in general who have faced false accusations during the hysterical #MeToo era, often having their lives destroyed without due process. Needless to say, the jury’s decision has been intensely polarizing.
Following the verdict, whoever runs the House Judiciary Committee’s Twitter account posted a GIF image of Depp in his most famous role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney’s lucrative “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise, a clip from a scene of the character striking a victorious pose.

The tweet immediately went viral, nearly breaking Twitter in the process, drawing a hurricane of backlash for the committee and its ranking member, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio from leftists whose emotions were still raw over Heard’s legal comeuppance.

I know this is intended to goad enraged responses, but honestly, someone is *probably* going to see this response and I just want you to take two seconds to think about the fact that you work with the government of the United States. This what you dreamt of?

In case you were in any doubt whether their opposition to Roe vs Wade is about the sanctity of "life" or really just straight-up misogyny, the GOP briskly uses a complex and sad legal case to serve as a further warning to uppity women everywhere.

Cool that you are coming out in support of both Disney and queer pirates, and on the first day of Pride Month, too! 🌈

Some pointed out that the actor once joked about assassinating former President Donald J. Trump.
Someone tell these morons Depp hates Trump so much he joked about killing him. He isn’t your guy and prob would cringe at this. https://t.co/BllClfZ5bY https://t.co/6iuyFBmVd9

Celebrating the actor who has joked about Trump being assassinated. Odd flex. https://t.co/zJYiRovOpy

Still, others tried to shift the subject to the Democrat push for draconian new gun restrictions in the aftermath of last week’s mass murder at a Texas elementary school.

Despite being on the losing end of the sensationalist celebrity trial that mesmerized Americans, Heard did win $2 million in her own defamation lawsuit which, judging by the reaction, didn’t serve as much of a balm for the perpetually unhinged activist left’s psychic wounds.
Depp, who wasn’t in the courtroom for the verdict expressed great relief, saying that “the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
